We’re Finally There: The 2015 Oakhurst Porchfest Schedule
Decatur Metro | October 5, 2015 | 9:00 am“We set out to do the Oakhurst Porchfest with a conscious decision to aim low and start small. Turns out the community had other plans.” – Scott Doyon, Oakhurst Porchfest organizer
At long last, we’ve got the schedule for the inaugural Oakhurst Porchfest to be held Sunday, October 18, from 2-6pm. And it’s a doozy.
For almost two months we’ve talked about the idea, recruited porch hosts and performers, and introduced you to some of the musicians who’ll be playing. Now we’re pleased to release the full line-up of 134 performances to take place on 131 individual porches (which, by our count, puts us among the top five largest Porchfests in the country our first year out).
Though old-skool printed programs will ultimately be available, our primary event schedule is being provided via a Google Map showing porches, performers, times, and performer descriptions. Build your performance wish list on your computer, then fire it up on your phone as you walk around and experience other stuff along the way. Here’s all you need to do:
On a Desktop
Your browser window will show both the menu and the map. Notice how the menu is broken up by categories — times and logistics — that you can turn on or off. Using the map, you can zoom in and see all artists for any particular street or area, color coded to reflect the time they’re playing. Click any performer and you’ll get specific details in the menu. Or, using the menu, click the drop-down arrow for “All items” under each time slot and you’ll get the full list of performers. Clicking any particular one shows you their location on the map and gives you their details.
On Your Phone
Access the link using your phone’s browser. When the map appears, you’ll notice a white bar at the bottom labeled “Oakhurst Porchfest 2015.” Tap that bar and you get the menu. From there, it works pretty much just like on the desktop.
It’s that simple. So go check it out yourself now at www.tinyurl.com/oakhurstporchfest and start planning your afternoon.
Further information and logistics are still coming together but as they do we’ll be releasing them here and on oakhurstporchfest.org. So stay tuned and we’ll see you there!
Having issues with the Google Map link. Anyone else?
Looking forward to having Tom Hill and the Laid Back Gypsy Souls on our porch for a 4:00 session.
By the way. . .Outstanding job Scott and DM! Thanks for all the hard work.
