Decatur 1000-Foot Water Slide Tickets Go On Sale Wednesday 9am; Only 6,000 Available
Decatur Metro | June 8, 2015 | 2:51 pmBased on the tremendous feedback to our original post announcing the city and DBA will set up a giant,1000-foot water slide down West Ponce de Leon Ave on Saturday, July 25th, I’m guessing there is A LOT of interest in getting tickets.
So here are a bunch of important details to know about the Slide the City event, we’ve compiled through inquiries or found on the Decatur Business Association’s website.
- Wednesday – The city tells us that Slide the City tickets are scheduled to go on sale this Wednesday. The exact time of day hasn’t yet been released, but we’ll certainly update you when we have those details. UPDATE: Tickets go on sale at 9am Wednesday.
- 6,000 – Only 6,000 tickets will be sold to the Decatur event. However, the DBA says to expect a lot of spectators. (Will it sell out faster than the Decatur beer festival – in less than 20 minutes? I wouldn’t be surprised.)
- Where to buy tix – You can buy tickets HERE when they go on sale. I’m working on getting the date of release. But you can sign up for event updates from Slide the City at the aforementioned ticket page.
- Street closings – West Ponce will be closed from from Clairemont Avenue all the way to Fairview Avenue. According to the event FAQ, “The slide itself will end in front of the 335 W. Ponce building (but residents will have access to the parking deck). On-street parking will not be available that day, but a parking plan is being developed.”
- No Beach Party – There won’t be a Decatur Beach Party in addition to Slide the City. The DBA states “we want to put all of our resources toward making this the big summer event. We expect to bring back the traditional Beach Party next summer.”
- Age/Height Limit – As previously reported you gotta be 46 inches tall and more than 5 years old to slide. The DBA site also says that 18-and-unders will need sign-off from legal guardians, so if you’re tweens/teens plan on sliding it sounds like they’ll have to tolerate their parents company for at least a few minutes before sliding to their hearts content.
Disclosure: The city and DBA’s Slide the City event is a DM sponsor
I don’t care how many bones I break. I’m going on that thing.
Oh boy. Another scalping opportunity!
Will volunteers get one free slide? That would definitely boost volunteerism!
let’s just hope we make out better than the Slide the City event in DFW this past weekend, where they had hours of delays because of mechanical issues and several heat related medical issues. http://www.fox4news.com/story/29256648/13-treated-for-heat-related-illness-at-slide-the-city
UPDATE: The city says tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 9am!
Maybe I missed it, but how much do tickets cost?
Oops, I see now the prices are on the website.
Ah, that’s going to be too pricey for the four of us. Looks like fun, though. Guess we’ll put some garbage bags down on the front yard.
This is not getting good reviews from recent events (very long lines and technical
problems) in other cities. If they sell 6,000 tickets how often will you be able to slide?
Prices are high.
1X – $15
3X – $30
Unlimited – $50
plus the cost of an inflatable tube if you don’t provide your own.
Prices just went up!
Fabulous video, but looks like a big bad sunburn. You can ride the Ocoee for less, but happy to see some crazy fun coming our way.
Wouldn’t shock me to see this event to have a large contingent of GoProBro’s. I feel like it’ll look more like Frat Beach than a PTA picnic.
what city is that in the fun promotional video? Looks like more than 1000 feet in that slide.
I hope a lot of people really enjoy this–looks fun. But way pricey for a family with several kids, especially compared to the old beach party.
For the love of all that’s precious! Are there not a dozen or so Decatur denizens with the chutzpah to go buy out the heavy poly drop-cloths at Intown Ace and open a fire hydrant? Don’t buy into the packaged-entertainment-ripoff mentality–make your own fun! >:-)
6000 seems huge. Assume 10 hours and 2 slides: 600 people per hour, 300 per slide per hour, 5 per slide per minute. That’s one every 12 sec per slide for 10 straight hours, not counting those w multiple ride passes. Their videos make it look like a big sliding scrum.
I will buy a 3-pass so I can study this problem up close But it definitely sounds like lines to me, and a lot of people in swimsuits wandering around Decatur. And still quite pricey for many Decaturites.
The DBA website has a discount code for 10% off the list price.
So could you get a wristband for 3 rides and split it between 3 people?
Careful if you got an email link this morning saying registration is open – I nearly bought tickets for Ann Arbor!
10 minutes before opening, the prices just went up!
I just saw that Jeff. WTH! not cool
that is weird Jeff. not cool
I no longer see ticket options either. I tried several times to put them in my cart, but it wouldn’t work. And now all the options are gone.
Is it already sold out? I don’t see anywhere to buy tickets.
A damn joke. I was on the site at 9 AM and never once had a legitimate shot at getting tickets. The minute I selected which ones the ticket selection portion of the site went blank. Super pissed.
Exact same thing happened to me! Even set an alarm to make sure I could get in and…nothing…
Tickets acquired! Let’s hope the kinks are worked out by July 25th.
I had a ticket window with tix selected, then it disappeared, and now it is telling me there is just a wait list like before registration. Did it really sell out that fast? And I noticed the same thing about the ticket prices — they were higher than posted before.
It looks like they are processed in waves. I went from all being available, to back to the waitlist screen, and at 915am the purchase screen showed up again, but the unlimited slides were apparently sold out. Kind of a pathetically clunky ordering process … still interested to see how much this sells.
I really can’t believe 6000 tickets went that fast.
Got mine–but nothing’s showing up now–guess they sold out? I wonder if someone went in and bought a lot?
Site is back up but all day went out the window way to fast. I was sitting on the site from 8.55 to 9 am and could not get them by 9.03.
Nevermind, I just got tickets. Keep refreshing the page!
The tickets ended up being $35 for the triple slider and I used the DBA discount code which is DBA15.
The unlimited option appears to be gone now.
They must have only had about 50 VIP tickets. I’m so bummed that I didn’t get that kind. I managed to get two triple-slide tix.
Got mine, too. That was the biggest PITA ticket purchasing process ever!
Finally got them, but the fact that it was so painful leaves a sour taste fro right now. The fact that all day tickets sold out in two minutes means there were either 6 or something is amiss.
Use DBA15 promo code to get 10% off!
Yeah, that website was not at all slick or particularly user-friendly.
Well tried to buy 4 tickets. Had everything filled in. Was well within the time limit on the website and then the website just went back to a page with a single ticket order page and now won’t let me order anything. Not impressed.
The 3 slide tickets for the time we wanted which I had lined up didn’t go through but was finally able to buy single ride tickets. Not at all impressed with the process. Hope the event will be better organised.
I tried for 45 minutes. Got to the page to fill out my info several times. Put it all in within the allotted time and when I went to submit it said my cart was empty. What a joke! Maybe next year they can go back to an event that is not as frustrating and the website actually works. Extremely unimpressed. DBA should look for other companies to plan events with.
I just managed to buy a single ticket. I had a triple in my order but it magically disappeared. Now the whole page has disappeared. Sigh.
the site crashed .. or it’s sold out?
I’ve inquired with the city about what is going on. Stay tuned.
See my latest post.
I’ve tried repeatedly to order and the site just goes nowhere. Likewise, I signed up for notifications and the email says ‘ Decatur Event’, but it takes me to Ann Arbor, Michigan. And I see these messages about poor handling in the past.
Doesn’t seem to be well run.
I don’t think it is high volume — I think their web development stinks.
I signed up for Decatur notifications repeatedly. I kept on getting emails about Allentown, PA. Never got an email about Decatur. Their site still shows tickets available, but people cannot seem to order them.
I did eventually get my tickets ordered.
A recommendation to people who cannot seem to get the window to appear that allows you to choose, or a page disappears — clear your browser cookies before revisiting. Some websites have a poorly coded sense of state that could be tripped up by whatever “cookie droppings” they left during your past unsuccessful partially executed visit.
“I don’t think it is high volume — I think their web development stinks.”
Yes, surely by now they would have had experience at other sites and known about the problems. Let’s hope their ability to produce the event is better than their ability to produce a website.
I think, by disappointing us now, by the time the event rolls around and we’re waiting in those long lines, we can all say, “Well this is nothing, you should’ve seen that horrible website experience!”
I was just able to buy SuperSlider tickets. As of right this minute, it appears that all three types of tickets are available!
Unfortunately I’m stuck with my triple ride tickets since there is no upgrade option.
