Mark your calendars for Junktique’s 3rd annual fundraising event on Saturday, November 12th, from noon to 5pm at the Solarium in the Oakhurst Village. Junktique, hosted by the Oakhurst PTA, is part artist bazaar, rummage sale, cook-off and dance party. This unique community arts event benefits Oakhurst Elementary School’s teachers’ grants. Junktique: Wings, Swing and Hops promises to be a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family!

At Junktique you’ll find…

• A treasure trove of fabulous finds from Oakhurst attics, local antique and consignment shops, as well as hand me downs from our very own students.
• Community Artisan Boutique featuring, exquisite locally-made crafts
• A sizzling, spicy, hot wing cook-off
• Swing dancing demonstrations and lessons
• An all new kid “carnival” area
• And much, much more!

All proceeds will benefit Oakhurst Elementary teacher grants. These vital grants assist teachers in enhancing their teaching approaches and classroom experiences.

Oakhurst Elementary’s new annual community marketplace event, “Junktique”, is back for a second year.

According to a press release I recently received, last year’s event raised $6,000 to meet the goal of buying the three remaining ActivBoards the School needed to outfit every classroom.  This year they hope to raise $10,000 to equip the School’s outdoor classroom with the necessary supplies and teacher training materials.  Here’s all the info…

The Junktique is back! The second annual event will be held Sunday, November 7, 2010 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Solarium in Oakhurst Village in Decatur. Junktique 2010 will feature a local artists’ market, a collectibles yard sale, live music, and tasty food and beverages. New this year is a “By Kids for Kids” yard sale where Oakhurst Elementary kids can experience the thrills of commerce.

On November 15th, the Solarium will host “Junktique”, an “upscale community yard sale” that benefits Oakhurst Elementary School.  Part yard sale, part artist market, part entertainment, Junktique sounds a lot like some sort of Decaturite nirvana.  (Buy stuff, drink, AND support a local school!?  So this is what Aristotle’s fourth level of happiness feels like!)

For $35, you can be amongst other vintage sellers on the Solarium lawn.  However, be warned…the word “vintage” is only open to so much interpretation.

Vintage is not…

items the Salvation Army won’t take, moldy paperbacks from the basement, boutique products you sell (see Artists’s Market page).

I guess the moldy paperback sellers will have to create their own festival that supports local education.
