Parents Create New After-School Program at First Christian

    Decatur Metro | May 25, 2010

    From DecaturMom…

In an effort to address the child care and education needs of the immediate community, the First Christian Church of Decatur is planning to offer an after school and school vacation program for children ages Pre-K through 5th grade starting in the Fall of 2010.

This is a grass roots effort that developed out of needs expressed by concerned parents in our community entering the CSD system with limited options for after school care and child care coverage during planned City of Decatur school vacation days.

After working with city inspectors, we were approved to use the facility at First Christian Church previously rented by the Georgia Center for Children. The facility, with a few modifications, can accommodate between 50 and 60 children between the hours of 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Transportation will be provided from City of Decatur schools to the facility.

First Christian Christmas Trees Now On Sale

    Decatur Metro | December 1, 2008

Cathy writes in and lets us know that the First Christian Church of Decatur’s Frazier Fir Christmas trees are now on sale!  Click here for prices and details.

My wife saw the trees being arranged on the lawn yesterday (fresh from North Carolina according to Cathy), but I wasn’t quite sure when they officially went “on sale”.

So if your looking for a live tree this year, stop by First Christian!  Or just go online and order…they offer free delivery within a 5 mile radius.

First Christian Requests Expansion of 'No Parking' Zone on Nelson Ferry

    Decatur Metro | November 17, 2008

My apologies for those that could give a flip about an expanded ‘No Parking’ in an area that you never give a second thought to…but hey, you got to give our gripey commenters credit!  Sometimes they’re psychic!

A little over a month ago, DJ wrote in with complaints about the parking situation on Nelson Ferry down by First Christain and its insanely popular little park that’s a hit residents less than 3 feet tall.  He wrote and I quote “Why do they allow parking on both sides of the street by the park?”

Whelp, it seems like either the pastor at First Christian was thinking the same thing or this post got the ball rolling because one of the items on tonight’s commission meeting agenda is “Recommend expanding the existing “No Parking” zone on the south side of Nelson Ferry Road adjacent to Decatur First Christian Church.”

Details for the proposal can be found on pages 37 and 38 of the supplemental materials provided by the city.

It is stated that that Asst. City Manager David Junger met with Rev. James Brewer-Calvert and with “neighborhood representatives” regarding the problem. I didn’t realize that Ponce Heights had neighborhood reps!  Who are they?
