    Garbage Post

    Decatur Metro | February 4, 2013

    fullgarbage fullrecycling

I must be giving out some seriously wretched vibes lately, because in the past 24 hours, I received two unrelated pics of people’s trash.

The first is from Chris, who notes that his “Old Decatur” bag is a stark contrast to the 1/3 full blue Decatur bags he sometimes sees.  (I must be an “Old Decatur” poser since I’ve been known to jam way too much in my go-to yellow bag.

The recycling bins pic is from Susan, asking for larger recycling bins for all residents.  You may recall that Decatur was in the running for a Coke grant that would have funded 65 gallon bins for all Decatur residents, but based on the lack of noise on that front, I’m guessing we didn’t get it.  I believe anyone can still purchase the 95 gallon bin from the city though.

Linda Harris tells DM that normal Friday trash pick up in the City of Decatur will instead be performed Monday.

They will pick it up on Monday. They will also collect the regular Monday route on Monday.

Decatur Gets Two Solar-Powered Trash Compactors

    Decatur Metro | August 25, 2009

Say good-bye to this familiar sight…

Over on The Decatur Minute, Cheryl announces the installation of two new solar-powered trash compactors in front of both Starbucks and Java Monkey.  (No love for Dancing Goats?)

Also, and this will make Altmod happy, the city is installing “new and more visible recycling bins.”  Click over to the Minute for a couple pics.

Decatur Spring Neighborhood Clean Up (aka Trash Amnesty) Day

    Decatur Metro | April 2, 2009

Carl tipped me off to this, but The Decatur Minute pointed me to the full list of streets.  That’s teamwork for ya!

    From the city’s website…

Public Works is gearing up for the 2009 Neighborhood Association Spring Cleanup Days with up to eight employees and four trucks on the following Saturdays in April and May, from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. All items to be collected should be placed at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m.

Yard trimmings, building materials (that are not from the work of private contractors), tires, appliances (not containing Freon), and trash that would not normally be placed in pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) bags will becollected.

Please do not include any liquids, dirt, bricks, blocks, stone, rocks, concrete, or motor vehicle batteries and parts.

To determine what day pickup will occur on your street, click here!

    Trash Talk

    Decatur Metro | February 18, 2009

Thought of this question while I was putting out my trash this week:

How many adults/kids live in your house and how many Pay-As-You Throw garbage bags do you put out on average each week?

Just curious how my trash output compares to my neighbors.

My answer is 2 adults/1 dog, one yellow bag.

Feel free to elaborate.  I have a feeling there will be quite a few pre-kid/post-kid laments.
