Reported Phone Robbery Attempt in East Lake MARTA Station Parking Lot

Decatur Metro | September 19, 2013

From Decatur Police…

On 09/17/13 at approximately 12:25 am, Decatur Police responded to an attempted robbery. The victim stated at approximately 11:30 pm (09/16/13) he exited the East Lake Marta station and was walking through the parking lot to the intersection of East Lake Drive and Park Place when he noticed a male following him and trying to get closer. Upon reaching the intersection, the suspect ran up to him and repeatedly said “Give me you phone!”. The suspect held his hand in the waistband of his pants insinuating he had a weapon. The victim put his phone in his pocket and refused. The suspect withdrew his hand from his waistband, stretched out his arm and with his fingers mimicked having a gun and again demanded the phone. The victim could see the suspect did not have a gun in his hand and “bowed up” at the suspect who then turned and fled on foot back toward the East Lake Marta station. The victim continued walking home and called police. No weapon was seen. The victim was not injured. No items were taken. The suspect was described as a black male, 19-23 years old, approximately 5’6 and 140 lbs, no noticeable facial hair, hair in dreds approximately 3” long, wearing a white crew neck t-shirt, jeans and black shoes.

Reviewing and Recapping the Safety Meeting at Decatur High School Last Week

Decatur Metro | September 9, 2013

A few of you already mentioned this in FFAF last week, but CSD was good enough to post the full safety meeting video on their website with this note…

In response to recent crime targeting City Schools of Decatur students, the school system and police department hosted an information session on Thursday evening, Sept. 5 at 6:30 pm in the theater of Decatur High School. Lauri McKain, principal of Decatur High School, presented some of the changes to procedures for large school events moving forward, and Chief Booker of the Decatur Police Department and his staff provided safety recommendations to our students and families. Dr. Edwards, Superintendent, was grateful for the attendance of so many of our families, staff and concerned citizens, and welcomes questions or comments through our contact_us email address: contact_us@csdecatur.net. Thank you!

Over at Decaturish, Dan has a great report from the meeting.  Check it.

Burglary Reported on Park Drive Yesterday Afternoon

Decatur Metro | September 6, 2013

From Decatur Police…

On 09/05/13 at approximately 6:05 pm, Decatur officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Park Drive.  A witness reported seeing four male suspects kick in the door of a neighbor’s residence.  The suspects were in a newer model, silver Mercedes Benz displaying a drive-out tag.  An additional witness/neighbor pulled his vehicle into the victim’s driveway behind the Mercedes in an attempt to block the suspect’s vehicle.  One of the suspects exited the house carrying a television and upon seeing the witness/neighbor who had blocked the Mercedes in, dropped the television in the front yard.  All four suspects then entered the Mercedes, drove through the yard and fled toward South Candler Street.  The suspects were described as three black males and one white male, all appeared to be 18-22 years old.

***Note***

In July the police department received 416 calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/activity.  In August the police department received 213 calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/activity.  Please continue to watch out for your neighbors and your community.  If you observe unknown persons or vehicles at a neighbor’s house or loitering/circulating your neighborhood, CALL POLICE IMMEDIATELY.  An officer could be just a few streets over and we have no way of knowing who belongs at your neighbor’s house.  Having everyone remain vigilant and call when something is out of place is the difference between having a dozen eyes or thousands of eyes watching over our community.
