Burglary Reported on Park Drive Yesterday Afternoon

    Decatur Metro | September 6, 2013 | 1:57 pm

    From Decatur Police…

On 09/05/13 at approximately 6:05 pm, Decatur officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Park Drive.  A witness reported seeing four male suspects kick in the door of a neighbor’s residence.  The suspects were in a newer model, silver Mercedes Benz displaying a drive-out tag.  An additional witness/neighbor pulled his vehicle into the victim’s driveway behind the Mercedes in an attempt to block the suspect’s vehicle.  One of the suspects exited the house carrying a television and upon seeing the witness/neighbor who had blocked the Mercedes in, dropped the television in the front yard.  All four suspects then entered the Mercedes, drove through the yard and fled toward South Candler Street.  The suspects were described as three black males and one white male, all appeared to be 18-22 years old.

    ***Note***

In July the police department received 416 calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/activity.  In August the police department received 213 calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/activity.  Please continue to watch out for your neighbors and your community.  If you observe unknown persons or vehicles at a neighbor’s house or loitering/circulating your neighborhood, CALL POLICE IMMEDIATELY.  An officer could be just a few streets over and we have no way of knowing who belongs at your neighbor’s house.  Having everyone remain vigilant and call when something is out of place is the difference between having a dozen eyes or thousands of eyes watching over our community.

Bravo to that brave neighbor who tried to block the burglary car–can’t say it didn’t give me some pause to think of what could’ve happened if the perps had been armed & decided to try to shoot their way out, but it made me feel good that somebody had the guts to stand up & say, “Oh, NO you DON’T!”

Hope these jerks are caught, and soon.

      6PM, pretty brazen, huh? Arseholes.

6 pm, people coming home from work, crooks parked in a driveway in plain view loading a tv into a Mercedes SUV with no tag… On a dead end street. MY dead end street. And my child, home alone, saw it out the window. A-holes, indeed.
Thank goodness for our watchful neighbors- one who called 911 and the other making sure they know damn well that we are paying attention. We are all so lucky no guns were involved. Wish Decatur police would regularly patrol the arteries into the south part of Decatur so these “visitors” would know they are being watched.

Brave neighbor intervening. It is safe to say many citizens are pissed and will act when we see something. nice job

Glad so many neighbors are getting involved. I’ve called the non-emergency police number and they were very friendly with me reporting a car that did not belong on my street with the driver acting strangely.

A lot of these have been brazen. Some even moreso. A Benz with drive-out tags would suggest a stolen vehicle, right?

I hope the judges that end up getting these cases are looking at maximum sentences for these lowlifes.

Since we have a community that is willing to pay for the infrastructure and institutions that are required to have an excellent quality of life, why don’t we hire more police? It doesn’t seem like doing double shifts is going to address the long term problem here. The growing affluence of Decatur is pretty difficult to hide and maybe it’s time we look at increasing police presence in the long term. As the population of the city grows, is the police department growing as well? I’m asking because i really don’t know. Those informed, please speak up.
