Get Your Decatur Prom Tickets, Support Tools For Success Program!

    Decatur Metro | April 20, 2012 | 12:52 pm

    Michelle writes in…

Buy your second annual Decatur Adult Prom tickets now before prices go up- $35 per person now, $45 at the door (buy your tickets here: http://decatureducationfoundation.org/news-events).  Prom is Saturday, April 28 at Form/Function, 508 E. Howard Ave in Decatur, from 8pm – 11pm.  Each ticket includes 2 drinks, fun tunes and great snacks from U-Joint.  Funds raised support Decatur Education Foundation’s Tools for Success Program, picked by Decatur Metro last year as a donation focus.   This year’s theme is Welcome to Hollywood- we can’t wait to see how everyone interprets that!

If you are still putting your look together, some Prom sponsors may be able to help.  Psycho Sisters has fun selection of outfits- mention Decatur Adult Prom and get 15% off your purchase (428 Moreland Avenue).   Want to add some glamour for Prom?  Try Fresche in Oakhurst- $70 for hair and make up (10% of bill goes to Decatur Education Foundation).  Call for an apt.
    Get your tickets now!

    Decatur Adult Prom is Back!

    Decatur Metro | March 9, 2012 | 11:30 am

    Michelle writes in…

Your high school prom — Take 2!
By popular demand … the prom is back!  Last year Decatur Metro teamed with readers Joe Mattern & Michelle Adams and the Decatur Education Foundation to help raise funds for the Decatur Education Foundation.  Fun was had by all, and the chance to re-live your youth, dance the night away and raise funds for Decatur students is here again.
Make plans to attend the second Decatur Adult Prom on April 28 from 8-11 p.m. at Function, 508 E Howard Ave. in Decatur. This year’s theme is “Welcome to Hollywood,” and proceeds benefit the Decatur Education Foundation’s Tools for Success program, which provides laptop computers and technology training to low-income families in our community.  Tickets are $35 per person and include great Decatur food, 2 drinks and tunes spun by DJ Aaron Hillegass.  Additional drinks $5 at the event.
Tickets can be purchased through the Decatur Education Foundation website here (http://decatureducationfoundation.org/news-events/decatur-adult-prom) – pay for the number of tickets you want and list “prom tickets” in the comment section.  Then, put on your Hollywood best and join your friends and neighbors for a re-do of your high school prom!
Businesses or individuals interested in finding out about sponsor packages for this great event, please go here.
Your 2012 Prom Hosts:  Michelle Adams & Joe Mattern, Tammie & R.J. Cummings, Michele & Aaron Hillegass, Shannon & Max Hirsh, Anna Mirk, Jill & Eric Myers, Leah & Dan Reuter, Gail Rothman & Doug Altizer, Nicki & Steven Salcedo (Prom King 2011!), Kyle Williams and Larry Kosten

A Note From the Decatur Education Foundation’s Gail Rothman

    Decatur Metro | May 27, 2011 | 10:58 am

On behalf of the Decatur Education Foundation I wanted to thank all of you who participated in the fundraising efforts for Tools for Success (which raised over $1,600 as well as your support of the Decatur Adult Prom which raised an additional $1,400 for Tools for Success). This year you helped us give out 8 brand new Dell laptops to graduating seniors headed off to college, removing an obstacle (lack of technology) that could have hindered their progress. It was a thrill to see this new initiative embraced by the community and we plan to continue the tradition in the coming years. If you have ideas for raising funds for this worthy cause or want to learn more about the work that DEF does in the community let me know.

    With gratitude,

    Gail

I’d also like to thank Joe and Michelle, who thought up and organized much of the prom, and all the DM readers who donated to the Tools for Success program this past year.  Big donations and small were all very much appreciated!  Decatur rocks.

    Decatur Adult Prom Recap

    Decatur Metro | May 26, 2011 | 9:13 am

You want pics from last Saturday’s adult prom?  Oh, we’ve got pics.  CLICK HERE.

    Here’s Michelle’s recap…

Prom was a great time- lots of fun outfits (blue tuxes, a few original prom dresses and a Billy Idol mullet wig!), fun dancing, good eats (thank you U-Joint!) and plenty-o-beverages (thank you Victory Brewing and U-Joint!). Prom King and Queen shared stories of mistaken wasabi-for-guac and manliner with lavender dinner jackets, and there were the obligatory conga lines and Electric Slide. Best of all, we raised over $1,400 for Decatur Education Foundation! Thank you very much DecaturMetro and DM readers for your participation- you all are the best.

Oh and did I ever mention that based solely on a DM comment, Kristin was featured in a The Times (London) article about adult proms recently?  They’ve got a pretty intense paywall, so you’ll have to read the full article in this PDF, but here’s the first paragraph to wet your whistle…

In the town of Decatur, near Atlanta, Kristin Leydig Bryant and her friends are preparing for the prom. There will be punch, a DJ, a ball room with garlands of crepe paper decorations and a photographer on hand to record this significant moment in their lives, as they stand with their dates on a white bridge strung with balloons.

Missing: Most Interesting Man in the World

    Decatur Metro | May 22, 2011 | 12:31 pm

    Michelle writes in…

Prom must’ve been a good party, b/c The Most Interesting Man In the World was absconded with near the end of the night (ok, his life size stand up figure). The Matador kindly lent him to us for the event, and we seek his return!

His phrase for the night was “While I don’t always dance, when I do, I prefer Decatur Adult Prom!”

Now he prefers to head back to his home at Matodor- no questions asked!

    Eye on the Prom

    Decatur Metro | May 13, 2011 | 5:03 pm

Michelle bravely submits her prom picture and wonders if DMers would be willing to submit their old prom photos.  If you’re feeling brave and up for a snicker, send ’em my way and I can put together a post early next week.

And don’t forget – Tickets for the May 20th Decatur Adult Prom are still on sale for $40 each through DM. And remember, all proceeds benefit the Decatur Education Foundation! Click below to order!
