The French music platform has developed advanced technology to detect AI-composed music tracks and inform its users. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to fairness in music.
In an effort to safeguard artistic integrity, Deezer has implemented an AI detection tool for music published on its platform. The tool flags tracks that are fully generated by AI, as stated by Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer, in a recent announcement to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Friday, June 20.

Indeed, for some albums, users can now see a warning: “AI-generated content, some tracks on this album may have been created with the help of artificial intelligence.” This content is also removed from music recommendations and playlists generated by algorithms. This is an effective way to support genuine artists. Deezer has become the first streaming platform to implement such an informative tool and was also one of the first to sign the Declaration on AI Training in October 2024.
As Deezer’s CEO explains: “Generative AI has the potential to positively impact music creation and consumption, but its use must be managed responsibly and with oversight to protect the rights and earnings of artists and songwriters. In the future, we plan to develop a labeling system for content entirely generated by AI, and to exclude it from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.” According to his statements, this technology is effective 98% of the time.
AI, a Major Challenge
The signaling works through several combined generative models, including Suno and Udio, trained to detect AI, along with a generalized system. The company plans to file two patents for this invention and doesn’t intend to stop there: their next goal is to detect voices produced by deepfakes. This is a significant challenge: according to a study by CISAC and PMP Strategy, nearly 25% of creators’ revenues could be threatened by synthetic technology by 2028, with streaming platforms playing a key role in this threat.
