A British man managed to score free meals at McDonald’s for months, all thanks to a clever, yet simple, strategy involving ChatGPT. Here’s how he turned the AI tool into a free meal ticket.
How ChatGPT Helped Score Free Meals
ChatGPT is a versatile AI designed to assist with a variety of tasks, from writing content to generating code and even creating images. It can offer advice on everything from fashion to finance and recipes for your favorite dishes. Its use cases are nearly endless, and its capabilities seem almost limitless.
However, one thing ChatGPT wasn’t exactly designed for is paying for meals—yet that’s exactly what one young man in the UK managed to make it do. While it’s not typically used for such purposes, the flexibility of ChatGPT allowed him to get creative and turn this tool into a long-running free food provider.

The Simple Strategy Behind the Free Meals
The strategy was deceptively simple and involved leveraging customer satisfaction surveys found on McDonald‘s receipts. Each receipt contains a unique code that grants access to an online survey about the customer’s experience. While most people probably toss their receipts without a second thought, this Brit took a different approach.
His plan was straightforward: using ChatGPT, he would ask the AI to craft a complaint about a poor experience he had at McDonald’s. The complaint had to be sufficiently detailed, within the character limit of the survey, and delivered in such a way that it seemed genuine. Once ChatGPT provided the complaint, the man simply copied and pasted it into the survey form.
After submitting the complaints, he was contacted by the restaurant and offered one or more vouchers as compensation for his “negative experience,” essentially granting him free meals. If the complaint wasn’t quite convincing, a quick rewording or two made sure it hit the mark.
How One Year of Free Meals Was Finally Stopped
For nearly a year, the young man enjoyed free meals by exploiting this simple method. It took quite some time for the McDonald’s location to catch on. Eventually, after repeated claims, the restaurant began to notice the unusually high number of negative feedbacks coming from this one customer. To counter the damage, the restaurant started posting signs encouraging customers to leave positive reviews to boost its ratings.
The story was later shared by the man himself in a podcast where he detailed how he managed to pull off the scam for so long. His tale serves as a reminder of how sometimes, a little creativity combined with the power of AI can produce results that no one could have expected.
While it may have seemed like harmless fun, the incident highlights potential vulnerabilities in loyalty programs and feedback systems that businesses rely on to ensure customer satisfaction. For McDonald’s, it was an amusing story that ended up drawing attention to the importance of maintaining genuine customer feedback.
