City and CSD Meet This Evening To Discuss Bond Request

    Decatur Metro | March 2, 2015 | 10:01 am

At tonight’s Decatur City Commission meeting, Superintendent Phyllis Edwards will give an “information briefing” on the school system’s request for an $82 million bond project that would pay for the further expansion of school system facilities to accommodate growing enrollment.  More on that HERE.

The information briefing will occur during a 6:30p work session.  Prior to the work session, the city will host the school board and CSD staff at a 5:45p dinner session.

After designation of Decatur as a Welcoming City, what are the the next steps or resources needed to create a strategic roadmap that will help policymakers to better define and create a welcoming community?

What a tangled web we weave. How about pay back what is owed thus far before borrowing more money. Lets see… In the past 10 years the fire stations have been updated, the Bill (gym) on Sycamore updated, city hall updated, most schools updated including big renovation to the high school, its’ stadium etc. The public works building on Talley Street has been updated and the police station, municipal court buildings at Ebster have been renovated. We are paying taxes to the city based on a 50% assessment. Enough is enough.

This will push the city to the 300 million area for outstanding bonds. This will make the financial hole deeper, annexation will make the hole deeper and staying the course without cutting expenses will deepen the hole.
