Community Meeting to Discuss Scott Boulevard Baptist Church Proposed Development – Monday July 8th

    Decatur Metro | June 27, 2013 | 8:55 am

The Medlock Area Neighborhood Association sends out this announcement…

The community meeting for the proposed development at Scott Blvd. Baptist Church will be held Monday, July 8th at Scott Blvd Church (2532 N Decatur Rd Decatur, GA 30033) at 7pm. http://www.medlockpark.org/2013/06/pre-application-meeting-for-proposed.html

MANA has posted the very preliminary plans that were presented to us at a small meeting called by Commissioner Rader on Monday night. http://www.medlockpark.org/2013/06/fuqua-development-ideas-for-scott-blvd.html

Neighbors, please mark your calendars to attend. A strong turnout from the community will help to hammer home our concerns regarding traffic and the 6 way intersection.

sounds like something COD would like to annex.

I have a question about the Walmart development across from this one (sorry for being off topic, but my question could possibly relate to this new development too). Is there going to be a requirement that Walmart install an electronic fence that prevents the shopping carts from being removed from the lot? I know they did this at the Chamblee Walmart, which is very close to a MARTA station. Though perhaps not an issue now, if there are future increases in bus service in that area there could be a problem with carts left around bus stops and other places.

That’s a very detailed rendering. The car on the right appears to have ground effects lighting.

Think this intersection is busy now? Just add 200 apartments to the mix! Fuqua built Edgewood, which is a complete mess to navigate. However, Fuqua’s plans to the community showed a development with a large greenspace in the middle. The greenspace was replaced with more parking when it ultimately came to fruition. Wouldn’t trust this developer as far as I could throw him. I hope DeKalb County commissioners and the neighborhood associations can work with all of the developers taking over this intersection to make the necessary traffic and bike/pedestrian improvements. I’ve seen about as much bike/ped tragedy as I care to on this stretch of North Decatur Rd.!

I trust the DeKalb County Commissioners even less.

The first proposal included all the homes on Blackmon Drive. They are no longer part of the plan. Since the plot of land is smaller, the first logical thing to go is the non revenue producing area. This is a business transaction not a game of Sims.

A roundabout should do the trick.

In a North Druid Hills study, one consultant had a large roundabout at Briarcliff & North Druid Hills that allowed regional traffic to bypass the intersection (motorists traveling from Stone Mountain to Buckhead) but allowed local traffic access to businesses and side streets. It looked ambitious (and costly), but I thought it was a neat idea.

Not saying it would fly at this intersection, but there is a lot of regional traffic on Scott that interacts with locals trying to cross.

I think stearns was being sarcastic.

Partial grade separation, like the Garvin proposal you mention, is interesting to discuss, but it doesn’t scale so well.

Yeah, I know. But it made me think of the study.
