Decatur Walmart Opens Wednesday, November 11th
Decatur Metro | October 23, 2015 | 9:54 amThis date has been floating around for a bit – Decaturish reported a Nov 11th opening a couple of weeks ago – but now you can see it with your own two eyes on the internet! Just in time for the holidays, the Suburban Plaza Walmart, just outside of the city of Decatur, plans to open on Wednesday, November 11th, according to its website.
Decaturish says that LA Fitness plans to open in early December and other Suburban stores are shooting for a March opening.
Seriously?!? It doesn’t look nearly like it’s ready to open…at least, it didn’t when I passed there last week. Wow.
It does not look like it’s that close to completion. It’s definitely coming along, but the exterior isn’t completely finished and the rest of the complex is still very much a construction site. It will be interesting to see if they actually open by the 11th and, if so, will people flock over there to shop – especially with so much of the remaining center not anywhere close to being finished.
Where are the other three horsemen?
hot dog! very excited.
I will increase my budget for Intown Ace shopping.
+100
Let’s see if traffic increases? Will they draw from existing motorists/shoppers? Or will they create new demands on transportation system? With its limited green time, Medlock is the most fragile and susceptible to congestion.
know what i’m most excited about?
having a nearby worms and crickets dealer fer taking mah chirren fishing.
i’m otherwise meh, yet mindful Walmart is one of the nation’s largest organic grocers
“nation’s largest organic grocers”
Love dropping this fact on the haters.
What if they built a Walmart and nobody came?
Not to worry – everyone who opposes development says that, but it’ll be packed from day one —-
Any protests, picketing or boycotts planned?
Not a chance, since those same folks raised nary a peep when YDFM raped the landscape.
What folks are those, folks just prone to boycotting? Some undifferentiated mass of a “protester class”?
“What are you rebelling against?”
“Whaddaya got?”
This Wal-Mart thing is a tough one. I personally don’t shop there on principle and won’t shop at this one. But Suburban Plaza was an eyesore at best, just plain depressing is more like it. As much as I don’t like Wal-Mart, I do like the space being used and looking nice. I wish it weren’t a Wal-Mart there, but surely many other chances to upgrade the area over the past many many years were missed. So this is what we got.
You sound very reasonable and fairminded. Which just makes me wonder why the hell you are posting here…;-)
I think if you knew me you’d think I was pretty awful. But thank you for the kind words.
