Random House Author/Illustrators Painting Mural at Decatur Rec Tomorrow
Decatur Metro | April 30, 2013 | 12:29 pm
Dave at Little Shop sends along this announcement…
In celebration of Screen Free Week, Random House is sending two incredible authors/illustrators to help encourage kids to turn off the TV and read a book or play outside. Two-time Caldecott winner Chris Raschka and graphic artist extraordinaire Bob Staake will be painting a mural at the Decatur Recreation Center starting around 3pm tomorrow. So stop by in the afternoon to say hello and watch them work their magic!
Dave says he’s heard they will be painting part of the wall in the playground area out back of the Rec.
When they’re done there, can someone send them over to Victory? There’s a big white wall there that could use a mural. I’ll buy the first round of Jack and Coke slushies to get the more-adult creative juices flowing.
Is that the same wall that had KISS and The Ramones? if so, I think we should keep the old music motif. I recommend Sabbath, Metallica and AC/DC.
That is some rock star quality talent there!
According to the LSOS website, the event is tomorrow…
Screen Free Week with Chris Raschka and Bob Staake
Wednesday, May 1st | Afternoon
Dang it. Thanks! I guess it wasn’t clear in the note I received. That Dave!!
Yea, that me. It will be tomorrow. Sorry, DM!
The Decatur Focus says it’s tomorrow at McKoy Park at 4pm. Or are they painting two murals?
I believe it has been moved from McKoy. This is what they posted on their Facebook page earlier today:
IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! We have moved Wednesday’s mural painting with illustrators Chris Raschka and Bob Staake to the playground behind Decatur Rec Center at 231 Sycamore Street. Please plan to join us as we celebrate Unplugged Week! Tell all of your friends! Painting begins around 3pm.
Ok, thanks!
Thanks to everyone who came out to see the mural painting yesterday! It is really fantastic! If you haven’t seen it yet, plan a trip to view it this weekend.
And, sorry for any confusion about where and when the painting was taking place. We had to make some quick decisions about moving it after realizing the first site just wouldn’t work. A big thanks to Greg White and his team at Decatur Active Living for making this all happen.
