Strangest Place You’ve Ever Commented/Checked DM

    Decatur Metro | April 18, 2013

Folks log into DM for all over.

Every once in a while someone says they’re writing from Hawaii or Canada in a comment and it sorta freaks me out, since my default assumption is that all DM comments are written on Decatur bungalow porches or Midtown high rises.

So I’m curious. What’s the strangest/most out-of-the-way place you’ve ever logged into DM from?

I recall arguing with DEM about local food sustainability from the Caribbean once a few years back and thinking to myself, “I really need to stop this.”

Checked in on my Nook from a haunted condominium on St. Augustine Beach.

DM: I can’t go too many days without checking Decatur Metro ;-)

If you check your logs from Winter break year before last, I think you’ll find some ip addresses from me in Malaysia and Singapore.

Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever checked in from anywhere stranger than the bathroom. But I’m sure the 8 year-old next door who I pay to write most of my DM comments has probably commented from the toy park or his school’s principal’s office.

I think I started posting on DM around 2008 when I was going through chemo (hence my user name). So I’d be at the hospital, prone, getting infused and writing a somewhat unhinged comment on the election or a poorly thought out restaurant design…The distraction was welcome.

Did everyone in your immediate vicinity suddenly turn toward you and point and scream, ala “Invasion of the Body Snatchers?”

Berlin, Paris, Madrid, St. Maarten, Brussels, and the lovely State of New Jersey. I’m guessing you don’t have a Stat tracker on your website so you can see where people are connecting from.

I could, but this is more fun.

New York while drinking a beer. Guatemala while drinking a Cuba Libre. St. Johns while drinking a nice Cabernet Sauvignon.

I have found that DM is more entertaining with distance and intoxication.

The Hippoview Hotel in Liwonde, Malawi is oddest I can think of. Never from a bathroom though – Decatur Metro has the ability to turn on your webcam.

Dresden. Lotsa good restaurants there — probably why I got to thinking about the hometown. Wish we had a good Russian place like Roskolinoff — I loved their “borschtsch.”

Gosh, no place particularly strange or very out of the way. I guess my best entry is Islamorada. Because checking DM while drinking a rum drink and watching for bonefish is a fine way to spend the early evening.

In the past month — San Francisco. In the coming month, Brooklyn. Gotta keep up on the local news, right? As for the St. John and CS comment, I can’t believe that there is anything other than bottles of Cruzan there …. :)

You are correct – St. John is BYOCS. (unless you want to pay 2X the ATL price)

Cruzan is one of the better local value buys… and the Island Brewers Mango is really good… but I guess I’m way off topic now… I just want to go back!
