From the all-knowing Decatur Minute…
South McDonough Street will be closed between Griffin Circle and Lenore Street beginning Jan. 17 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. The work will take no longer than 21 consecutive days and homeowners will be able to access their driveways during construction. The road will be reopened every night and early morning between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact John Madajewski, P.E. Senior Engineer/CRS Coordinator at 678-553-6530 or at john.madajewski@decaturga.com.
A note from City Schools of Decatur notes that this closure will likely impact “the arrival and dismissal of several of our schools, especially College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center, Winnona Park Elementary and Renfroe Middle School.”
CSD recommends allowing an extra 15 minutes in the morning when dropping off your child or multi-childs at any of these buildings of learning. Bus routes will also be affected.

Help….it looks like the detour is around College Heights. I normally drive down S. McD, then turn into the parking lot of the school – but it looks like the street is closed from one side of the drive to the other…how am I supposed to drop of in the morning? Do I just need to wait until next week to see?
You’re right. Is the work being done directly in front of CH?
Looks like it’s just south of the school.
There’s an entrance/exit at Garland – which is just north of the closure, I imagine they’ll be using that one or have another contingency in place.
The part of the road that will be closed is not in front of the school, it should be a little south of the exit. I am pretty sure both the entrance and exit of College Heights will be clear. You just won’t be able to turn right out of the exit. You will have to turn left and either take South McDonough St. heading towards Hill St or take Griffin Circle to get to Brower St and Candler Road.
It’s hard to tell on this map but the school is at that small stretch from Garland Ave to Griffin Circle, the two one way streets looping around the park across from the school.
I guess Decatur Minute isn’t THAT all-knowing, since they have Oakview going all the way to Candler and College Pl. intersecting w/ E. Hill. St.
Whoever made this map should be replaced by someone who knows how to make maps, and knows the community.
Um, or they could just correct the mistake. Do heads really need to roll?
Um, who said heads need to roll?
