Anyone In and Around Decatur Feel the Earthquake?
Decatur Metro | August 23, 2011I didn’t. But I’ve seen a couple reports on Twitter of Atlanta folk who said they felt it.

I felt it in downtown Atlanta but will be in downtown Decatur in an hour or two. I’ll bring my experience with me.
Dang, I was downtown during it but was disappointed to not have any eyewitness account 10 stories up.
I didn’t, but some quick (and possibly bad, like, really bad) math says we should have felt something around 1:55-1:56 PM.
No, but I used to be oblivious to small earthquakes all the time when I lived in Los Angeles. I would perceive a tremor as wind or traffic outside and never be conscious of it until someone else pointed it out. It was a quiet period for earthquakes when I lived there and I’ve never felt anything big.
No. And I recommend staying away from local radio (I got stuck running errands during all this). They are gushing with excitement at this news blitz, putting on person after person having them describe what they felt… “Oh mah gawsh, I thought mah washer had dun broke. But that weren’t it.”
*note to self*
Avoid local news tonight.
I did. I thought that’s what it was and was hitting up Google when the breaking news came through.
Obama leaves DC, near the epicenter!!! and is on the golf course ( probably the safest place to be during an earthquake).
Coincidence??????
Hey, if you felt it, make an entry at USGS’s “Did you feel it” web page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/
Me, first I knew was the announcement that our Web pages might be slow to load because the servers at headquarters were affected. I work for USGS….but on water, not earthquakes.
I’m in Crystal City, VA and we felt it very strong here. They evacuated the building for about 45 minutes. Silliest thing ever was that the rally point was under a highway over pass. Note: I did not go to the rally point!
I was near the AT&T building and it moved the stack of phonebooks about eight inches.
I feel small earthquakes every time a MARTA train goes through the tunnel below our home – no big deal.
Nope, didn’t feel a thing. But hey, welcome to the new Hurriquake season! Reminds me of thundersnow? Remember that? That was cool.
“Hurriquake”! Nice!
Yes – definitely felt it at Emory. Could feel the building swaying back and forth four or five times. It was just about 1:55 – Unconcerned Citizen got it right.
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you’re around
wow – cool!
Didn’t feel anything, but that’s b/c MARTA is so close to my building that anytime there’s a rumble, we just assume it’s a train…
it just stirred my drink a little.
which is nice.
Yes, yes it is
Hubby & I felt it, and said, “Gee, do you think that’s an earthquake? Ha ha.” Would have thought it was the washing machine on spin cycle, except that it wasn’t on.
I’m in Nashville and we didn’t feel anything up here, so the idea that Atlantans did seems a little dubious.
ya
no wait that was the garbage truck
wle
Yes, I felt it in my downtown Decatur office.
Yup…felt it in my condo at the Renaissance. It lasted about 20 seconds or so. Felt like a train was rumbling near by.
Probably a little less that the rumble we will feel when everyone is jumping up and down after Trader Joes announces it’s opening in Decatur.
Will that be before, or after, the Walmart and Dollar General?
Interesting. Our last earthquake was also on a Tuesday around 10 years ago. Around 4:55 A.M.
i remember that!!
That one woke me up!
The sky got all dark and it sounded just like a freight train…oh wait…
here’s a pic of some damage:

My 3 year old was throwing a tantrum, so I just assumed the seismic shift was due to her hollerin’.
It shook the 3rd floor of Alston at Agnes Scott.
My mom lives on the top floor of Decatur Renaissance Condos.
She told me she was sitting at her computer, when she felt the floor moving under her feet.
Only later when she watched the news, did she understand what the cause might have been.
What’s up with an accident this morning at Coventry and Scott? Emergency vehicles were descending from every direction at around 7:45 – 7:50 AM but I never saw what actually happened.
Looked like a two car crash at Merrill and Scott. Someone was probably trying to turn left onto Merrill and got hit from behind.
