East Ponce vs. West Ponce

Way back, East Ponce was definitely classier (boutiques, restaurants) than more utilitarian West Ponce (locksmith, Post Office). It paralleled the Great Lakes vs West Decatur (a little known designation that I just made up) Clairemont Ave. divide which was lessened during the pre-2007 real estate boom but somewhat perpetuated by the closing of Westchester (had to get that in their somewhere!). More recently in the past, businesses seemed to fail more on lower West Ponce than on higher West Ponce or East Ponce. But currently they seem to fail equally along Ponce!
I think both sides of Ponce are both great–good shops, restaurants, sidewalks, and pedestrian crossings. I don’t love the Ruby Tuesday-Taco Mac stretch of West Ponce or the parking garage and gas station stretch of East Ponce but those are minor quibbles.
East Ponce is so classy with its own Nude Dancing venue.
Why can’t we have one on West Ponce?
West Ponce since I live there!
The intersection with Clairmont? You mean Church? Or am I completely confused now? Because doesn’t East Ponce b/c West Ponce at the intersection of the two and Church by Decatur Diner/Leon’s??
And what’s funny, since I am so directionally challenged and probably wrong, is that I have honestly thought that was the switch over for TWENTY YEARS!
I always considered it to be at Clairemont, at the Old Courthouse. But I can’t say I ever validated that assumption.
Gosh DM, all this exceptionalism lately is…
unusual.
Hmm…I thought it was just all in good fun. Well not this particular post, since no one seems to be having much fun…but in general.
My dream world was most appealing with E. Ponce folded back over W. Ponce, so I suppose I put E. Ponce on top, literally. Then again, W. Ponce appeared right-side up.
What were you saying about a car-free district in Decatur?
All the businesses between Clairemont and Church have E. Ponce addresses. So, pretty much confirming the premise of the original post.
Depends on if I’m walking uphill or down.
The East Ponce edge rocks! Easy access to everything!
WESTSIDE!
Definitely WePo, because we have Rep. John Lewis. The other folks have this guy that is concerned Guam may ‘top over and capsize': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNZczIgVXjg
Even though I live on the east side of things, I must concede the strength of your point.
Gosh darn it, Carl, I sure do adore John Lewis…hmmm…
Bright side: Many of your east side neighbors are appreciative of the efforts of both Congressmen -AND- are able to look past one gaffe just as John Lewis would encourage us to do! :0)
Dang, Carl– talk about slamming it down for the WePo!
I looked today and was sooooooo wrong. I cannot believe in 22 years I never read those signs!
West Rules. East Drools.
