Ain’t you a li’l stinker, DM?!? Talk about setting off a tussle!
I adore both, but have to give the edge to cats…by a whisker. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
In bigger news (but on topic), I’ve finally convinced the spousal unit to agree to getting a dog to join our family (in addition to our two felines)! YAY!!!!
I enjoy cats because, for the most part, they take care of themselves, they’re their own beings. Dogs are needy; however I usually enjoy other peoples’ dogs.
The solution to that is simply to clean the litter box regularly. Not a fun job, but takes care of most smelliness associated with cats. I think dogs are great, but every time I look out my front windows and see neighbors out in the cold and rain walking their dogs, I vow never to let my kids talk me into getting one.
I think arguments about cats and dogs going potty are futile. Both have their unpleasant sides…
That said, I’m all about the dogs. I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do with the cat. Maybe sit there and watch it play? With my dogs, I can get on the floor and wrestle all of us into a sweat. I can take them for walks which gets me out of the house. And… nothing beats taking your dog to the dog park. That’s when aspects of dogs’ personalities and variation in color, size, etc. really shine. Plus it’s fun to make fun of dog-owner pairs…
Dogs–of course…..
Last time I checked, a cat won’t let you know that UPS truck, Recycling truck, trash truck, Seven Day Adventists, army of squirrels, friends or foes are at your house–they just shrug and walk away.
I have an alarm cat that alerts me. He was feral and runs whenever someone comes to the house he doesn’t know. usually before i even see or hear them myself!
Ihave two cats that run to the door and growl when someone knocks. One of them even stalks and swats at visitors he dislikes. This proved disadvantageous for him when he decided he didn’t like the new petsitter. Sweetest cat in the world to us though. I think many people who dislike cats have just never owned a really cool one. They don’t all fit the aloof stereotype.
I have two dogs and 4 cats. They are each uniquely different in their own way. Dogs are great for when you want to be active (assuming they’re in the mood themselves). Cats are great for reading a book, sleeping and watching tv.
It sucks having to get dogs outside in the rain to go to the bathroom and it sucks cleaning litter boxes but it seems like a fair trade for what they give you in return.
I also have to say, in terms of who rules the house, it’s definitely the cats, by a very wide margin.
If only they could all learn how to clean the house while i’m at work.
So this is obvious. Dogs. Can’t get enough of them. Prefer the non-small-yippee type — too much like noisy cats. Cats? Ok, as long as they don’t live at my house.
I love cats and had several for many years (living in the burbs) but my downsizing to a cottage in the city left no appropriate space for the litter box. I now have 2 dogs and love to walk with them.
I am on phone so I cannot post to the alarm/guard post but I have a friend who, back in that day when we all had home phones, could not hear the ring. Her cat went and stood by the phone for her and she never missed a call!

Our cat thinks the dog is a scratching post and the dog thinks the cat is a chew toy.
Everybody’s happy.
Dogs.
Duh.
Best of both worlds: chihuahua
Cats are decorative. Dogs are decorative AND functional.
Cats are functional too. No rodents in the house, thanks to our vigilant cat.
Dogs. Cats are master manipulators who will never be fully satisfied until all of us are dead!
Cats rule and dogs drool.
But dogs are tastier.
I enjoy cats because, for the most part, they take care of themselves, they’re their own beings. Dogs are needy; however I usually enjoy other peoples’ dogs.
Kittehs fit our lifestyle much better than goggies. I love our cats fiercely. I love dogs, too.
My favorite:
A Dog’s Diary, A Cat’s Diary

Very funny.
Bulldog?
Cats, hands down. Dogs smell. I want ours to disappear.
Dogs smell?
There’s nothing quite as pungent and obnoxious as the odor of cat urine.
That strikes me as very sad.
Me, too. I love the four-legged members of my family, even if they’re smelly…

Ah, the dog-owner pairs! I am forever amazed at how frequently one sees dogs and owners that look alike.
Not sure what to do with a cat? I’m sure it would suggest that you should simply worship it.
And feed it!

Dogs, but both make me sneeze

S’cuse me— gotta go hug me a dog..
I prefer cats.
I can appreciate dogs, though, as long as they don’t jump up on me, sniff my crotch, or bark all the live long day!
Both. At the same time. And they both play with us and with each other. And one of our cats growls at interlopers.
I love cats and had several for many years (living in the burbs) but my downsizing to a cottage in the city left no appropriate space for the litter box. I now have 2 dogs and love to walk with them.
Dogs look at their owners and think “Wow, you feed me, give me water, provide me shelter, you must be a God!”
Cats look at their owners and think “Wow, you feed me, give me water, provide me shelter, *I* must be a God!”
Thus, Dog. I hate my pets having a superiority complex.
Cats.
Dogs smell.
Depends on how you’re planning to cook ‘em.
I love cats. They taste like chicken.
Dogs rule!!

Which ever one ADOPT from a shelter or rescue!
Depends on how they’re prepared. >:D
I like both, but used to much prefer dogs until we got a very cat-like dog
um, that would be used to prefer cats until the dog-like cat appeared (no, not yippy, though smaller dog than I had ever had)
