Mystery Runner Escorted Through Decatur

Do you know who the single runner on Scott Blvd was this afternoon? I saw him around 1:15 at Clairmont, headed west. He had quite a crew with him: 2 motorcycle + 2 State patrol cars, and he was running in the street. I assume it must be for a cause or a record, but haven’t seen anything about it.

I saw the same thing – and was more than a little baffled at what that could have been.
I saw a similar thing on Ponce yesterday in front of City Hall East except it was a cyclist, not a runner.. hmmm..
It appeared to be part of some kind of race. There were also two gentlemen on bicycles who also appeared to be part of the race. After backing up traffic on Ponce de Leon considerably (people in the opposite lane were also stopping, I think because it was Sunday and they thought it was a funeral), the man got into one of the police escort cars around Briarcliff and the bicycles continued. It seemed like a lot of police manpower (two motorcycles, two squad cars) for 3 participants. It was weird, I would love to know what the event was.
Perhaps it was related to this:
