    Zombies in Downtown Atlanta

    Decatur Metro | June 10, 2010 | 12:05 pm

Move over Real Housewives of Atlanta, Atlanta zombies are coming to TV!

The On Location Vacations blog reports that AMC’s upcoming original series “Walking Dead” is currently filming in the Fairlie-Poplar district and will be set in Atlanta.

One of the scenes they will be filming in the neighborhood includes a main character arriving in a post-apocalyptic Atlanta. The city seems to be void of life when he arrives but he soon finds himself surrounded by the living dead and is quickly engaged in a tense fight to save his own life.

Sounds sorta like a normal day of hitting the Atlanta streets before rush-hour and then realizing there’s a convention in town. :-)

And the best part is that that zombie extras are needed!  So if you know of any Decatur zombies looking for a little small-screen face time, have them shoot a note over to [email protected]   Selected zombies must to attend “zombie school” and have a flexible schedule between June and September, according to On Location.

Thanks to Jenn for pointing out this brain-munching event!

Filming zombies downtown? So are they suggesting that post-apocalyptic Atlanta looks a lot like regular 2010 Atlanta? Or are we already post-apocalyptic and I didn’t get the memo?

And isn’t this the second zombie move to shoot here recently. I’m starting to feel a little uncomfortable about living so close to the cemetery.

“The city seems to be void of life when he arrives but he soon finds himself surrounded by the living dead and is quickly engaged in a tense fight to save his own life.”

Sad to say, but it sounds like the average experience of a business traveler walking outside of a downtown Atlanta hotel on a Sunday evening looking for a vibrant city in which to experience dinner — but finding only vagrants and panhandlers shuffling down the mostly-empty sidewalks. There. I said it. I didn’t wanna say it, but somehow I had to.

Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing the exceptionally beautiful (particularly by downtown ATL standards) Fairlie-Poplar area on TV. I hope the zombie fighters try some pizza at Slice!

If they’re filming in Fairlie-Poplar, they won’t need to hire any extras.

Come on people, they are going to shut down the area where they will be filming at and mess it up a little to look like there has been an apocalypse.

Its going to be great, I KNOW!

Key part of that comment – “a little”.

Aww, come on, now…Fairlie Poplar is a very attractive area. My favorite section of Downtown:

It’s suspicious that Steve hasn’t commented in view of his obvious zombie obsession of late. I’ll bet he’s already staked out a place by the casting line to see if any of the extras are not really extras, if you know what I mean!

This series is actually really good.
Also, my car already has a “ZOMBIE OUTBREAK RESPONSE VEHICLE” sticker on it, so i’m ok
