Emory Roundabout Construction May Begin in May

Roundabout Update :
DeKalb County’s new roundabout and streetscape project in Emory Village is on the near horizon. A contractor has been selected and following the final Georgia Department of Transportation approvals, the roadwork will begin as soon as this May. Check back with AIEV (www.emoryvillage.org) for updates.
Burbanck Park Work Day in March
Burbanck Park, on the edge of Emory Village at the corner of Clifton and Oxford roads, continues to flourish. Another round of landscaping improvements will be added at a community work day (Saturday, March 27; 9 a.m. to noon) at the park. Grab a shovel, work gloves and join neighbors for new plantings, refurbishments to the main path and a general spring cleanup of the park. Thanks to the Druid Hills Civic Association for funding this spring cleanup, and Emory for providing the landscape expertise. Burbanck Park is owned by Emory and provides a recreational area for the community, and acts as a “green buffer” between the residences of Druid Hills and the commercial district of Emory Village
Changes at Site of Former Recycling Center at Emory Village CVS
Peavine Creek may get more attractive, thanks to volunteers leading an effort to replace aging pavement beside the creek. No parking spaces will be lost as the Alliance to Improve Emory Village seeks county approval for peeling back some of the CVS parking lot spaces where Emory Recycling collection bins stood. In their place, a bio-retention swale is planned to give storm water a healthy place to pause and drop the silt and debris it usually carries. Some of the existing concrete may be replaced with storm-friendly pavers. A public hearing on the idea is set for Monday night, March 15, at 7 p.m. the Maloof Auditorium in Decatur.
I’m thinking about setting up a time lapse shot the first day it opens. Ought to be good for a laugh or two.
Where in Emory Village is the Roundabout going? Went to both website but no details as to where.
I *think* it’s going in at the intersection of North Decatur and Oxford. People who are smarter than I am about this kind of thing believe this to be a good idea, but I’m with David. I think it will provide hours of viewer entertainment.
It’s going at the massive 5 way intersection at Emory’s front entrance.
Decatur would greatly benefit from a roundabout at West Ponce and Northern. I can identify 3 benefits: traffic calming, opportunity for a public sculptor, and demarcation of the entrance way to downtown!
I think that is a great idea. As long as the sculpture doesn’t include the amber lightpost thingy…
