Taqueria del Sol 10 Year Anniversary Plans
Decatur Metro | February 18, 2010From Creative Loafing’s Omnivore…
To celebrate the [10 year] anniversary, the owners plan to open a different TDS for a few hours each Sunday in April. Diners will get a chance to order some more complicated dishes. “We hate that we can’t do certain dishes now,” Trusler said, “but they take too long with the high-speed pace of the taquerias.”
Get on the TDS mailing list to be sure you’re notified about the anniversary celebration.

Have I really been in line for 10 years?
They shouldn’t have closed/converted Sundown.
“…they take too long with the high-speed pace of the taquerias.”
Taken out of context, that is pretty funny.
It takes a while to braise wandering children, it seems.
Sweet, there’s a TDS mailing list. Now I can enjoy being insulted in the comfort of my own home. AND on Mondays and Tuesdays!!!
no taco for you!
That’s so strange — I eat there, on average 1-2 x a week and have NEVER been insulted. Quite the opposite, actually. Not sure I can see any of those nice folks being insulting — hmmmmm, I wonder if there are two sides to the story, perhaps?
I agree. I can’t say that they are overly friendly, but I have never been insulted or even treated poorly. I think some people just don’t like rules.
Not really. I stopped going there a few years ago when I realized there were a half dozen other Mexican/taco joints in town that don’t treat their customers as cattle, or a nuisance.
But I guess some people dig that kind of stuff. To each his own.
Not to belabor the point, but I never hear specific examples of insults or being treated as a nuisance. Do you have any specific examples? Also, does Kroger treat their customers like cattle? What about Fellini’s? How about Figo? All these places have you wait in line and/or order at the counter. And while I am certainly no fan of lines, you do get your food almost immedietely after sitting. But I certainly agree, to each his own!
Figo does NOT treat their customers like cattle. They know all of us and our preferences by heart and are always solicitous, prompt, and helpful. Of course, I could learn to cook….
If Figo was as busy as TDS, it would be the same thing.
It’s pretty busy. Not as busy as TDS but there’s rarely no line except maybe on a Monday night.
I enjoy joking about the long lines, but I’ve never had a less-than-great meal there and staff is always very friendly – not just in Decatur, but Howell Mill as well.
Though the folks are a little on the Tortillas-too-hip-to-smile train, the food is always very good and priced right.
I think they recruit their employees from independent record stores, you know, “I would tell you about that CD, but it wouldn’t be cool anymore.”
Great news…lettuce wraps are on the way!
Personal opinion…Tequeria is simply one of the best, most unique dining experiences anywhere. Consistently great food, once seated; VERY fast service; eceltic ownership and management that gives it personality; good value; clean; and always predictable. As evidenced by the lines, it’s populatrity only grows. TdS has become a “must visit” when friends and relatives come to town…in spite of the owners reluctance to indulge my lettuce wrap fettish.
Will be celebrating my 11th year of NOT going there. Glad they are successful for the sake of our downtown and those of you who enjoy it, though.
shrimp corn chowder. That’s all I need ….. must have on cold days ….
Native Texan here…grew up on tacos. We eat at TDS once a week – Hubs says it is the only reason I have allowed him to keep me in Decatur and not forced a move back to Texas (love it here, love you all, but man, oh man, I miss my bean and cheese tacos and huevos rancheros on the weekends). Looking forward to dinner there tonight.
We moved to Los Angeles last June, and to this day, I still have Taqueria cravings. For all the really great Mexican food available to me out here, Taqueria still ranks among the best. Ate there once a week when we lived in Decatur, and never once had a bad experience with anyone working there (although the line I could have lived without).
