    Automobile Smashes Decatur Cemetery Sign

    Decatur Metro | February 16, 2010

UPDATE: Steve comments: “It was an automobile cited for “Failure to maintain lane”. Duh! The DPD did file an accident report.”

    Marlatiara asked DM on Twitter…

Haven’t seen anyone mention that the Decatur Cemetery sign is destroyed (near baby Kroger). Know what happened?

    And then followed up with…

Looks like something smashed into it. Made me sad b/c they seemed to have just fixed the missing letters – now no letters left!

I’m waiting on a response from Asst. City Manager David Junger for more details.  In the meantime, if anyone drives by and can snap a pic, I’ll add it to the post.

Thanks Steve! I also had a note in to DPD but hadn’t heard back yet.

BTW, that’s the second time something like that has happened in the past couple of years. Last time, the offender (or his insurance) repaired the sign. This time I think the damage was a little more extensive.

That section of Commerce is a State Route (Rt 155), so Decatur can’t do anything about barriers or the like without GDOT agreeing, and that stands a fat chance.

I saw that mispelling on Streetsblog.

I was hoping to see what kind of awsome velomobile took out the sign.

Gotta say its a shame the car didn’t ram into the Kroger (not hurt anyone) but make them redo that store!
