Wouldn’t it make sense for the DeKalb Farmers Market to either use plastic containers for its own food that it would then accept at its recycling center – like plastics numbered 1 or 2 – or start recycling the other types of plastics?
Has anyone seen Zombieland? The engagement ring sequence was filmed at the Gas n Gulp and showed a lot of the surrounding area, including J. Christopher’s and the Methodist church. I’m sure we know some of the people who were driving by in that scene!
Right around the corner from our house. I was driving by when they filmed it. They apparently also did some night filming there, but I didn’t see it in the final film.
They were hard to miss. The streets on both sides and through to Kroger were completely filled with vehicles of all sorts, trailers, cranes, emergency crews, etc. etc., and the Kroger parking lot was full of semi trailers with more gear.
Lots of info on here from around that time and through the release if you search “Zombieland.” I’ve heard a sequel is in the works.
Hi, a new group has started in Decatur! Its focus is to provide spiritual education classes for all (adults, youth, children) who are interested in that aspect of human nature. Check out the web link http://www.meetup.com/decaturspiritualeducation for more information.
The group will be having a Festive Family Meet up on Sunday 28 Feb. 2010 in downtown Decatur from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The Meet up is open to all – there’ll be pinata for the kids, all-age games, music and quotes on the soul and the purpose of prayer and fasting – sign in on the website to book your place! Cheers, Atieno Samandari
What happened to the Greek diner in the old Atlanta Bread spot, did that idea die?
I don’t think it was ever alive. There has been a Stop Work order posted on the site since October.
Yeah, I asked the city about it a week or so ago, but never heard back.
We noticed some activity in that space the other day, but the stop work order was still posted on the door.
I don’t know about what might go into the ABC site, but in the meantime I strongly recommend the good Greek food and friendly service at Andryannis Bistro, 125 Clairemont Avenue (in the alley behind Georia Power). They have great food and table room even at noon because a lot of their business is take-out.
I know we had a recent thread about local car repair shops and that led me to a good place, but now I need tires, so for TIRES specifically, where do you all suggest????
Discount Tire in Chamblee is where you want to be. I’m all for supporting Decatur businesses but DT runs too good of an operation to pass up.
Kaufman Tire on Church Street. They will do free repairs for life on tires you purchase there. Also very reliable for oil changes and other routine maintenance.
I second both Discount Tire and Kaufman Tire. Discount does not do alignments, so you will have to take your car elsewhere for that.
By the way, the last time I bought tires, I purchased them online from discounttiredirect.com. They are owned by Discount Tire, but often have better prices, and shipping was free when I ordered mine. You then take the tires to Discount Tire and they mount/balance them for about $15 – $20 each. Even with that cost, they were still cheaper than buying them directly from the store.
I’ve been very happy with Kaufmann–so far they’ve tested “honest.”
Another satisfied Kaufmann tire customer here. They’re good, reliable, reasonable.
Buy a Costco membership for $50 and order your tires online. They ship for free to the store and their installation is the cheapest. Even with the membership costs I saved $$$.
Apparently all pertainent district business is complete.
Let the pandering begin!

If you ever wonder why things never seem to get done in Congress, look no further.
What can be done to clean up the abandoned house on Ridgeland Avenue with the old junk car, travel trailer (neither licensed) and the old washer , stove and dryer also sitting in the yard. removed.
Makes it difficult for the nearby property owner to sell his house.
Saw an arrest this morning @ 9:00am in the parking lot on the corner of Commerce and Curch St. a female was being led into a police car and two officerse were searching the car…. A bit early for that stuff….
Depends on what stuff it was.
It may have been late to her.
Kauffman Tires offers another great service that some people may not know about: they plug punctured tires (remove nails, screws, etc and then seal the hole) at NO CHARGE for anyone, no matter where you bought your tires.
I tested the limits of their graciousness this summer, bringing in 3 different cars a total of 5 times in July/August. The nails/screws in the tires were due to all the home improvement work being done between my home & office (basically Lamont Drive) this summer.
I was never charged a dime. The nice people at Kauffman didn’t even comment on my frequent visits!
Hey DecaturCoyoteHater,
I forgot about that. They did the same for me a couple of years go. Stopped in, waited about 10 minutes, one of the techs came out and patched my tire. Didn’t charge me so i gave him a 10 tip and was on my way. Very nice service.
Kauffman is a great place to buy tires. They have the same friendly attitude you get at Quick Trip
Has anyone spotted Decatur’s Wiley Coyote? Do. Not. Like. Coyotes.
The City of Decatur board of appeals hearing for the 444 peer support center has been rescheduled from February to March. As we know there is two sides, those for it and those against it. Rumor has it that Rosalyn Carter has enabled the legal services of a former governor of Georgia to represent the center. That is high priced tallent.;
Those against it are attempting to raise $5000 to hire legal counsel.
Source?
If true, big guns indeed for a zoning dispute.
Since the Wellness Center is a non profit, are donations (and pro-bono work) deductible?
If so, does the neighborhood association benefit from a similiar advantage? We’re defintely not profitable.
why don’t you ask your lawyer?
Donations are tax deductible to the wellness center- cash or tangible inkind – because it is a 501c3. Intangibles such as pro bono are not. The IRS does not typically grant 501c3 status to neighborhood associations because they are basically private clubs with membership restrictions like geography.
There’s two n’s in Rosalynn.
(Someone else can tackle the rest.)
Tackling myself: There are two n’s…
(She’s a personal hero.)
The heading of this Free-For-All states that it is 2009–is this true, DM?
Have we gone back in time?
We have. Obama-mania is still in full-swing and Michael Jackson is alive and kicking!
If I could turn back tiyum. If I could find a way….
and Ugg boots are still fashionable…
I am bit confused here. Is it 2009 or 2010? Are the coyotes burrowing at 444 Sycamore Dr? Is Glenlake park hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic mud games?
