Holiday Volunteering
Decatur Metro | November 16, 2009 | 8:02 amCraig wants to help, but needs options…
Hi DM — Any chance you could post something about possible volunteer opportunities over the Thanksgiving and other winter holiday season? I’d like to give back, but not sure what’s out there.
The Salvation Army always needs help serving food on Thanksgiving Day – you can contact to schedule a two hour shift.
Lee Ann Harvey, the City volunteer coordinator, can certainly find something for you to do. .

Hey — just something to ponder…many places have lots of volunteers step forward during holidays and special event times of year. And while this help is always appreciated, many of these same organizations go begging for assistance the rest of the year. In addition to the special effort made in November and December, perhaps people could consider also donating a couple hours a week/month during the other months.
Just a thought…
Good point – Thanks Trixie.
I’m looking for something a 12-year-old boy could get involved in. Anybody got any suggestions?
This announcement came over the Winnona Park listserv today from Alisa Porter, deputy exec. director of Our House (on Columbia Dr., just at the corner of Kirk Rd.).
They are hosting thanksgiving dinner for 60 homeless families, Friday November 20th. Their sponsor for the dinner and their staff volunteers have pulled out.
They are seeking 5-6 volunteers from 10:00 – 1:00 to serve dinner and clean up. If you are interested please let Amber know at 404-378-0938 or .
