Candler Park Fall Fest This Weekend

    Decatur Metro | October 9, 2009 | 9:59 am

Ken Edelstein asked me to post this weeks ago.

This weekend, before or after you head down to Oakhurst for the Arts & Music Festival, take MARTA down to Candler Park for some more festival action!

According to the Fest’s website, you’ll be able to dye your hair green, play dress up, see Kingsized perform on Sunday night (and Baton Bob on Saturday), and even invade people’s homes (what some folks call a “tour of homes”)!

But what I really wanna know is, why on earth is the New York Times a sponsor of a Candler Park festival?

NYT? I think they’d like to increase their distribution.I imagine that they will be selling subscriptions for home delivery, but that’s just a guess.

      100 Year Anniversary? That’s a pretty logo.

I’m pretty sure it’s the neighborhood’s anniversary…not the festival. But I have nothing to verify that.

          Except common sense.

Thanks for the nice post. The history: It’s actually the 100th anniversary of Candler Park being annexed into Atlanta. The whole history’s actually more complicated and interesting and of course involves race, which I just wrote about on Atlanta Unsheltered here: http://atlantaunsheltered.com/2009/10/09/candler-parks-complicated-history/

      Best,
      Ken
