With only a few minutes left to vote in this Final Eight round, Porchfest is holding onto a lead.

Vote for Oakhurst Porchfest in the “Great Atlanta Festival Face-Off”!

    Decatur Metro | May 18, 2016 | 3:52 pm

    porchfest1

    Ok, here’s the deal.

Curbed launched a “Great Atlanta Festival Face-Off” bracket style event yesterday. Today, our Oakhurst Porchfest is up against the mighty Music Midtown, but it already has a lead a couple of hours in!

So please take 5 seconds and CLICK HERE and let’s make sure we get ourselves into the Final 8!

Unfortunately, it looks like the Decatur Arts Festival came up a bit short vs. Candler Fest Fall Fest yesterday.  If only we had known!

    Your Favorite Atlanta Spring Festival

    Decatur Metro | April 5, 2016 | 10:45 am

The tornadoes of pollen and spastic carpenter bees are telltale signs of the commencement of Spring along the Georgia Piedmont.

To combat all the subtle annoyances of lust-filled nature, humans congregate at events they call “festivals”.  It’s a reason to get out in the sunshine, converse with each other, and devour King of Pops.

But there are so many great Atlanta Spring Festivals these days.  What are your favorites?

Kirkwood Spring Fling Festival This Weekend!

    Decatur Metro | May 15, 2015 | 11:09 am

    about_the_fling

Our neighbors over in Kirkwood are hosting their 13th annual Spring Fling at Bessie Branham Park (MAP) this weekend.  Here’s a summary from the website…

Get a warm welcome to our neighborhood with all the family-friendly fun of the 13th annual Kirkwood Spring Fling & Tour of Homes. Start the day off with our 5K, stroll through our artists market, catch some live music with a bite to eat from local vendors or our BBQ competition, and let the kids go wild in the kids area. Best of all, admission is free.

You can also learn a little more about what makes our neighborhood feel so unique with the Tour of Homes on Saturday and Sunday. Get your tour tickets online, at several local businesses or in the park during the festival.

We can’t wait to see you in Bessie Branham Park on May 16th.

All proceeds go to benefit the Kirkwood Neighbors’ Organization, a local 501c3 non-profit group dedicated to community improvement.

Atlanta Pride Back at Piedmont Park This Weekend

    Decatur Metro | October 30, 2009 | 12:01 pm

    atlanta pride digging dykes

    Kathy writes in…

Atlanta Pride is this weekend, Oct. 31-Nov.1. It was moved to October this year because of restrictions at Piedmont Park during the summer due to the drought.

To make this a Decatur-related event, I’m enclosing a picture of the Digging Dykes of Decatur garden club from the 2007 Pride parade. Come out and support your many gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered neighbors (of which there are many in Decatur)!

More details can be found here.

Candler Park Fall Fest This Weekend

    Decatur Metro | October 9, 2009 | 9:59 am

Ken Edelstein asked me to post this weeks ago.

This weekend, before or after you head down to Oakhurst for the Arts & Music Festival, take MARTA down to Candler Park for some more festival action!

According to the Fest’s website, you’ll be able to dye your hair green, play dress up, see Kingsized perform on Sunday night (and Baton Bob on Saturday), and even invade people’s homes (what some folks call a “tour of homes”)!

But what I really wanna know is, why on earth is the New York Times a sponsor of a Candler Park festival?

    Pinelake Lakefest – October 3 & 4

    Decatur Metro | September 16, 2009 | 4:23 pm

Lalah alerts us to the coming Pine Lake Lakefest from our artistic Pine Lake neighbors out US78 to the east.

Though I used to live very close to Pine Lake, I’ve never ventured out to this city.  I’m always amazed at how many interesting enclaves there are tucked into the forested landscape of metro Atlanta.
