3 Alarm Fire at DeKalb Industrial Wholesale Store
Decatur Metro | November 20, 2008The AJC calls it a ‘cigarette warehouse“. 11Alive calls it a “wholesale grocery store”. Regardless its on fire.
The A to Z Wholesale Warehouse at the corner of DeKalb Industrial and Lawerenceville Highway is ablaze this morning and with all the combustible goods (cigarettes) inside firefighters believe it could take all day to extinguish the flames.
The fire is producing a ton of smoke, which is easily seen from downtown Atlanta.
Anyone have eyewitness reports?
Not an eyewitness, but I heard the sirens at about 6:10 this morning while I was out jogging. I saw the smoke while on my way to work at ASC. Just glad there were no people inside.
Just another example of how cigarettes can be deadly!
I didn’t see it, but I’m glad to know the reason for the helecopter hovering near my house at 6:30 this morning.
hmmm…didn’t the dheli dharbar that used to be there also go out in a blaze of glory a few years back? That spot must be highly flammable!
…or heavily insured…Hmmmm….
I drove by about 8:15 this morning, when it seemed to be pretty involved, although all that could be seen was smoke, not flames. There were four or five fire trucks on Dekalb Industrial, but they appeared to be more for backup than anything else. The big show was in the vacant lot that was formerly Shoney’s, and looked like the entire Dekalb County fire department was in attendance. Water was being shot at the fire, and the plum of smoke was amazing to behold. About a half hour later, I drove 285-S and the smoke had drifted fairly heavily across it at the point that 78 goes underneath. Traffic was not a problem in any location.
