And You Thought WE Had Money Problems!

    Decatur Metro | November 19, 2008

    Annexation got your blood boiling?

Well that tax base initiative has nothing on the city of Atlanta’s efforts to create a local gaming authority that would set up a casino at Underground!

Gambling.  Is there anything it can’t do?

Eureka!!!! We just set up a resort and casino in the old grocery store property in Oakhurst – problem solved!

      “Oakhurst Poker Emporium”

Hmmmm… Poker is so NOT Decatur – let’s come up with something more sophisticated.

Poker is plenty sophisticated, especially after a beer or three. What might you suggest as being more sophisticated, my elitist friend? Bingo? Greyhound racing?

I’m with DM. One doesn’t drink wine with poker.

      High stakes Scrabble?

Well, since it would be in that ratty store that someone won’t sell, it could be dice games only and it could be named “CRAPS”…

      Just sayin’

Baccarat Chemin de Fer…the only game to play with wine!
Ok, que the bond theme Albert!

I say we turn the old Scottish Rite Hospital into a casino along the lines of Monte Carlo.

Could we have a big water slide like at Atlantis?

Doesn’t everyone realize that there have been tables set up at that place for the last couple of years? No one has noticed the late model lincolns and caddys with dimmed headlights going in the back way (next to Mulligan’s) after about 11 every so often? Doesn’t it make sense that this is the reason it hasn’t sold or leased?

I agree with Steve. Decatur is going to require something much more sophisticated.

What if we called it the “Organic Community Gambling Center of South Decatur”? All the gambling chips would be locally sourced from fair trade companies, the cards would be made of recycled paper (or possibly hemp), and the drinks all organic. That would seem to overcome most of the local objections that I can foresee.

Robbie, you didn’t mention anything about whatever of value would be wagered. BTW, there is such a thing as organic wine, isn’t there?

    15. Marlys says:

There would be an objection to the “red” poker chips…

Oh yeah – they’d have to be shades of green.
