The Candy Vote Is In!
Decatur Metro | November 1, 2008 | 10:38 amThe candy has been tallied and though there were some reports of tampering (you people should be ashamed of yourselves!) the results are now posted in a rather hilariously edited video over at candyvote.com. (I especially like the look on Mindy’s face at the end when Moey announces how many days left ’til the election)
Great job guys! Hope you had fun on CNN this morning!
On another Halloween-related note: We got far fewer trick-or-treaters this year than last.
So, needless to say there’s a ton of candy left and no one to give it to. I think my co-workers are about to put on a few pre-Thanksgiving pounds!

We also had fewer trick or treaters than usual, but I was glad to see that most of them did a good job in the costume department.
Here’s the Oakhurst rundown on the key trick or treat factions:
1. Little Kids in Costumes: Numbers down slightly, though much variation depending on which street you were on.
2. 17 Year Olds w/out Costumes, but wearing black hoodies: Numbers down drastically.
3. Later Evening People Actually Driving Their Kids Door to Door with Their Hazard Lights On: Numbers — strangely high — consistent with other years.
[…] Decatur residents such a fun way to participate in this very important election! And thanks to DecaturMetro and inDECATUR for execellent coverage of the candy […]
Here on Adams Street things were about the same – typically a Mardi Gras sort of environment… without the shirts going up and folks throwing beads, of course. We are going to try to get the city to close our street next year during the festivities b/c there are TONS of little kids and there were some near misses with cars.
That’s funny – we seemed to have a lot more kids than prior years (west Oakhurst). We ran out of candy in less than an hour! Rather than risk the ire of disappointed trick or treaters, we turned off our main porch light and snuck out out for a late dinner out.
My daughter’s Decatur cadette girl scout troop is collecting left over candy to take to a chemo centers, as they work on their silver award. Chemo patients like to have small pieces of candy, hard candy or mints to combat the taste left in their mouths by the chemo infusions (I speak from experience!).
Let me know if anyone is interested and I’ll set up a drop off point.
Great idea Rebecca! We ended up with a couple big bags of candy leftover from Friday night. Where can we drop them off?
We got way fewer trick or treaters and I would have to agree with Scott’s breakdown. The hazard light candy shuttles were up this year.
Robbie C:
You can drop them on the porch at either 301 Driftwood Terrace (off of S. Candler) or at 137 Kirk Crossing (in Winnona Park)
Thanks!
Rebecca, what about chocolate? We have way more candy than we need. I would love to do something good with it other than just throw it away.
Chocolate works too, my favorites were reese cups!
Thanks for the info Rebecca, this is great. I’ll do a full-fledged post.
Thank you!
