DeVry To Shack Up With AIA-Decatur at One West Courthouse Sq.

    Decatur Metro | March 28, 2008 | 1:39 pm

Seems like One West Courthouse Square is becoming an educational hub.

DeVry University/Georgia’s President announced today in a letter to “Georgia Employees” that they are downsizing from its DeKalb Industrial campus and moving to our glassy, Square building this autumn.

Geez…was this building completely empty prior to these academic tenets? When did all this space become available?

Hopefully this means even more lunchtime traffic for Decatur and perhaps it will help revitalize that sunken dead-zone patio area with the broken stone tables. That whole area is completely unacceptable if you ask me.

Thanks to Cherie and Rus to forwarding along this information!

If you’d like to read the President’s full message check out the continuation…

Dear Fellow Georgia Employees:One of DeVry University’s strategic objectives over the past several years has been to align facilities with current students’ needs. Changes in the usage of the Chicago, Addison, Columbus, West Hills and other campuses have resulted in creative solutions to yield the best use of their facilities from adding new DeVry divisions to moving to a new location. Well, it’s our turn.

We have a very exciting opportunity ahead of us. The Decatur Campus is moving to bustling downtown Decatur. Our new home, One West Court Square, is just a mere 1.4 miles away! We will be next door to the Old Court House on Ponce de Leon Avenue. The seven-story, blue glass building is literally across the street from the Decatur MARTA Station. For those with access to mass transportation, this could be a wonderful savings and convenience!

We will be occupying several floors of the building. As a matter of fact, we will be sharing the first floor with The Art Institute of Atlanta. Our new home is in walking distance of well over a dozen eateries and a Starbucks (I guess that’s heaven for us coffee drinkers).

There will be much more information to follow as decisions are still being made, but I did want you to know as quickly as possible that a location has been finalized and we will be moving sometime during the fall this year. Most likely the move will be done in phases, the first phase being Admissions Departments.

As I had mentioned in our Town Hall Meetings, this move is to right-size the facility with the delivery of our programs/courses and the needs of our faculty, staff and student body. I hope you are as pleased as I am with the location of our new, invigorating environment. It will be a fine place to celebrate our upcoming 40th anniversary in Georgia in 2009.

    Sincerely,

    LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

    Jeff Moore
    President
    DeVry University/Georgia

IIRC. that building’s been about half-empty since AMEC bolted for Tucker a few years back. The CDC had some space as well. I assume they’re still there.

CDC occupied most of the space in the building while their new facility was being constructed. Their move left several floors open. We look forward to having the Devry’s Decatur campus students join us on the square.

Does anyone know where I can find information about the Town Hall Meeting mentioned in this BLOG? Does Devry have THM’s on a regular basis? When and where? Thanks.
