More National Recognition for The Brick Store

Decatur Metro | March 3, 2008

Forbes Traveler ranks the Brick Store as one of the top 10 Beer Bars in the country.

Here’s the blurb…

“Deep in the heart of football and Budweiser country, the pleasantly subdued Brick Store—no neon, no blaring TVs—is an upscale oasis offering 17 craft beers on tap, including Atlanta’s unfiltered SweetWater IPA; and about 75 bottles, such as Denmark’s Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, a double stout redolent of espresso coffee and dark chocolate. Fill up on pasta with homemade pesto before heading upstairs to the Belgian Room annex featuring more than 100 bottled beauties.”

“Budweiser and football country” … perhaps they should have used that on the ‘welcome to Decatur signs’, rather than that business about ‘homes, schools and places of worship.’ :) Seriously, how did they come up with the budweiser and football country? Nothing against budweiser or football, but it just seems like an odd way to describe Brickstore’s location. It’s nice to see Brickstore in this list though.

Yeah, I thought the same thing Ryan.

It probably stems from most Northerners view of ANY city or town in the South. All the other bars on the list are in well-known liberal meccas outside the South (Seattle, San Fran, NYC, Portland ME, Denver) so they probably saw a little bar in a GA town they’ve never heard of and thought “what’s that all about?” And instead of doing any research, they just assumed it as an anomaly in an otherwise red state.

    Definitely lame.

I think you are right about that. The photo they used of Brickstore is one of mine, so I had a brief email contact with them. I’m going to let them know that, while flattering, they must have mistaken the location with Hazzard county, a few miles down the road.

    Ha! Awesome.

An excellent pic BTW. Nice work.

Thanks. I think they found the photo from an Atlanta set I posted over at skyscraperpage. There are some more photos from the Decatur square (near the end of the set): http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=146469

Great blog by the way. My wife and I have been enjoying it a lot.
