    Wordsmiths Moving to Decatur Square!

    Decatur Metro | March 1, 2008 | 5:00 pm

After Rus got us talking about the old Trust Building last month, Alex commented that the owner was saying that a new tenant would be in the space within a month. Well, once again our sources were correct and now we finally have our answer!

Rus (again!) passes on the news that our very own Wordsmiths is moving out of the old Post Office building and into the old Trust Company (more recently Suntrust) building on the Square.

Perhaps the potential sale of their current location is forcing them out of that space, which they’ve only been leasing since June 2007, but as long as “Georgia’s largest independent bookstore” still has room for all of their books, author lectures and signings, I think a new location right in the heart of downtown will be a great fit.

Wordsmiths will be giving up valuable parking space with this stone’s throw move, but it will certainly benefit from more foot traffic and better storefront windows.

Many thanks Wordsmiths for filling this aching whole in the Decatur streetscape. If you run across this entry, please feel free to add any additional info in the comments section (like an opening date?).

Now if only the owner would remove that hideous facade on the building.

UPDATE: Russ (not to be confused with “Rus”) at Wordsmiths confirms the move and let’s us know that all details will be formally released Monday.  So look for more details tomorrow.

    Thanks to both Rus(s)es!
