The Angel Planning To Reopen Under Same Management?
Decatur Metro | January 29, 2008 | 9:54 pmThat’s what Karen @ The Chocolate Bar was told when she inquired about the availability of the building, according to the intrepid Rus.
This news after Carl informed us a few days back that both Hand in Hand and Fox and Hounds had reopened.
So perhaps Derek Lawford Pubs will indeed come back from the brink and in the end Prince of Wales will be the only victim.
But then why put a sign on the door that says “closed indefinitely”? Why not use a slightly less daunting word like, say “temporarily”? Maybe its just a British English vs. American English thing?
From the horse’s mouth (Derek Lawford Pubs posted the following comment on AroundMidtown.com): “The Spotted Dog, and The Hand in Hand are still open, also the Fox and Hounds will re-open soon. We also still have the half-price food on Mondays.”
If only Prince of Wales and The Angel were on the re-open list.
Yes, The Angel is suspiciously absent.
Hopefully it was because they were only listing Midtown area pubs (for AroundMidtown.com) and not because it won’t reopen.
I am not sure what the statement (that Pat quoted) means for the Angel. Derek Lawford Pubs left this information in a comment on on our site, so hopefully a representative/the owner will let us know more about the Angel’s status. It very well could be that he was just letting us know about his Atlanta pubs.
As someone born and raised in Blighty, I can say that there is cause for hope, assuming that Derek Lawford was closely abiding by the Oxford English Dictionary. According to the OED, the word means “Without definition or limitation to a particular thing, case, time, etc.” Not much hope there. But the mighty tome also adds “indeterminately, vaguely.”
So just look at the sign and think “closed vaguely.” Much more comforting.
Ha! I love it!
American Heritage also states “vague” as a definition for “indefinitely”, so maybe its just my own internal dictionary that’s given a bit too much weight to the word. Perhaps I should be using it more often in every day conversations.
Such as “Since the Super Bowl will run indefinitely this Sunday, I better buy a lot more beer!”
Any updates? Does anybody know the landlord or property owner? I know a group very keen to re open a similar concept. Shame to see it go away completely.
There’s a story in today’s AJC … http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/business/stories/2008/02/07/pubs_0208.html
