Cakes & Ale To Open Feb. 2008 – Menu Now Online
Decatur Metro | January 29, 2008 | 10:06 pmThe misses and I took a stroll downtown with the dog this evening before the rain came and we noticed that Cakes and Ale now has their menu and a sign proclaiming that they will be opening next month in their window. Well the same also true online.
See Cakes and Ale’s menu here, along with a note from the owners.
It’s easy to see the connection that Chef Billy Allin has with Watershed when you look at the menu. Lots of dressed up, organic southern eats.
Can’t wait to try it!
Also found this posting about Chef Allin and Cakes and Ale in case you wanted to know every little piece of info out there on the place.
Where is the “Cakes and Ale going to be? I looked it up on Google Maps and it gives me the location for Taco Mac?
Thanks,
Steve
It’s at the corner of Ponce and Ponce Pl, across Ponce Pl from Cafe Lily at the old Viet Chateau location. It’s in the same strip of shops as Taco Mac.
Just heard that Cakes and Ale’s opening has been delayed. The new opening date is March 18th. Can’t wait–the menu looks very tasty!
Thanks for the update Kathy! Their website still says February 2008, but that’s obviously no longer possible!
Being a member of the immediate family of the Cake & Ale restaurant clan, I was invited to family night on Tuesday, March 25. The restaurant will be open to the public beginning week of March 31. There is a delay on the liquor license, but brown bagging is encouraged!!
Let me just say that it was worth the wait! What a beautiful space – polished and sophisticated but warm and inviting. The menu is simple, comfortable but unique all at the same time.
On the night of my visit, featured appetizers included Maine mussels in a delectable cream sauce with bread for dipping; arancini, which is a rice made like risotto, creamy with a touch of citrus, then deep fried – can you say melt in your mouth yummy good. Followed by a nice salad of radicchio and greens (nice and crunchy, not limp) with warm vinaigrette.
On to the main food – pan roasted wild stripped bass with lemon mayo; potato gnocchi in a nice, almost puree, of cabbage, garlic and caraway (I’ve never like gnocci before, but this was great!); and definitely the winner of the evening was roasted chicken with carrots and turnips – like grandma would make if she trained with Julia Child – crispy outside, succulent inside – need I say more?
I encourage you to stop by for a visit! Welcome Cakes & Ale to Decatur!
