Decemberists’ Colin Meloy and Artist Carson Ellis Coming to Kavarna in February

    Decatur Metro | January 15, 2014 | 11:33 am

Poverty is Real has announced the Colin Meloy of The Decemberists fame- and acclaimed artist, Carson Ellis “are stopping by Kavarna Coffee (707B East Lake Dr.) in Decatur on February 7, 2014 to host a special event with Poverty is Real!”

The duo will be give a reading from their acclaimed “Wildwood Chronicles” starting at 7p that evening.  Tickets are $15 per adult and $10 per child, with a one per family book purchase.  Tickets go on sale at Little Shop of Stories starting this Friday, January 17th.

    And it’s all for a good cause…

Ticket sales from the event, hosted by Decatur-based nonprofit Poverty Is Real (PIR), will benefit the Decatur Education Foundation’s literacy programs, which aim to ensure that all students in the community, regardless of income, have access to great, age-appropriate books in their home libraries and develop a lifelong love of reading.

You may recall the wife/husband team gave the keynote at the Decatur Book Festival a couple years back.

DBF Prereading: Download Four Chapters of “Wildwood” For Free!

    Decatur Metro | July 30, 2011 | 2:44 pm

Jonathan notes in FFAF that NPR’s All Songs Considered blog has a link that allows you to download the first four chapters of the book “Wildwood“, who’s authors, Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis of The Decemberists, are the keynote speakers at this year’s Decatur Book Festival on September 2nd. Well now DM is offering it too!  (Because it’s just an embedded widget.)

You have to input your b-day and email address, and then they send your an email with a link to download, but it’s no more involved than that. I was  able to do it all on my iPad and open it in iBooks, so its just like reading in the Kindle app!

Wildwood releases to the public on August 30th.  Meloy and Ellis will launch the book at Powell’s in their hometown of Portland on Aug 30th, and then two days later, DBF baby!

DBF Keynote: I Know “The Decemberists”, But What’s “Wildwood” All About?

    Decatur Metro | June 22, 2011 | 11:09 am

Lots of Decatur folk know Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis from their artistic lives with “The Decemberists“, but let’s not forget they’re coming to our fair city to give the Decatur Book Festival keynote address about their new fantasy/adventure book “Wildwood”.

What’s Wildwood all about?  Little Shop posted this great little interview with the two found on currently living on YouTube.   Check it!
