Pick Your Own Veggies at Sugar Creek Garden for Thanksgiving!

    Decatur Metro | November 20, 2012

The Wylde Center sent out this announcement yesterday…

Avoid the lines at the grocery store and pick your Thanksgiving produce in your neighborhood community garden! Sugar Creek Garden has baby kale, hot peppers, mustard greens, chard, carrots, beets, arugula, and a few handfuls of sweet peas ready to harvest this week.  The garden is located across from the dog park on East Lake Drive (by 2nd Ave. intersection); go to the back of the the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church parking lot to find us.
Come by Tuesday 4 pm – 6 pm or Wednesday 3 pm – 5 pm to harvest for your Thanksgiving meal.
We are asking for a donation of $10 a pound for the produce that you pick. All proceeds directly support Sugar Creek Garden’s maintenance & operations.  If you have any questions, please contact Dara Suchke () or Lindsey Mann ()
    - Sugar Creek Garden is managed by the Wylde Center, wyldecenter.org.

Sugar Creek Garden & Decatur Community Gardens Profiled

    Decatur Metro | October 18, 2010

This morning the AJC profiles Decatur’s Sugar Creek Garden in an extensive article about the city’s burgeoning community gardens.

The slender finger of land alongside Sugar Creek, tucked away in Decatur’s southwest corner, is practically invisible from two nearby roads. Sugar Creek itself, with those concrete embankments engineers were so fond of during the 1960s, looks like an open gash.

A leaning, rusted sign post, maybe 30 years old, says “Warning Stay Out” which, to conventional eyes, appears like sound advice. But when Lindsey Mann first scanned this same Sugar Creek vista she saw a virtual Eden.

    Nice piece.

    Sugar Creek Garden Needs Volunteers

    Decatur Metro | May 10, 2010

    I like it when AJC.com acts like a blog…

Decatur’s newest community garden needs volunteers willing to trade work for produce.

Volunteers who spend at least two or three hours per week at the Sugar Creek Garden, part of the Oakhurst Community Garden Project, can trade their hours for what vegetables and flowers come up from the work.

Volunteer hours in May are available on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Groups and individuals are welcome.

For more information or to sign up, contact Lindsey Mann at lindseyemann@gmail.com or 404-377-2843.

My work here is done. :-)
