    Oakhurst Market Now Open

    Decatur Metro | July 9, 2011 | 9:29 pm

Tracy sends along a slideshow of photos inside the just-opened Oakhurst Market.  Candy, wine, produce, meat?  What more could a sweet-toothed, wine-slurping, omnivore ask for?

    July Openings Around Decatur

    Decatur Metro | July 8, 2011 | 3:08 pm

A couple of openings of note coming up.  The first comes from Patti Garrett’s blog…

Owner Marc Brennan says that the Oakhurst Market should officially open by next week. Located in the old Real Source real estate office at the intersection of Oakview and Eastlake, the market will have: Butchered high-quality, grass-fed meats, In-house roasted turkey, beef, pastrami, Steinbeck’s signature pimento cheese, In-house baked bread, To-go dinners, Fresh herbs and vegetables from the Oakhurst Garden and Sugar Creek Farm, a seven-foot wine wall, and Growlers

Now over to Twitter.  Decatur’s new Italian spot No. 246 says it should open next week.

Looks like we’ll be opening for you on Wednesday, July 13 – thanks for your patience! We’ll keep you posted when it’s confirmed!

Heard good things about the new interior of this space.  They’ve got a couple of teaser pics up on Tumblr if you’re interested.  UPDATE: Also, I just noticed their menu is now online!  Check it HERE.  Also, a just posted blurb on the AJC Food and More blog implies that foodies are jazzed about this new spot.

And finally, Trackside’s Facebook page is promising a July open.

    Am I missing anything?

    More Oakhurst Market Details

    Decatur Metro | June 17, 2011 | 12:16 pm

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you may be aware that I have a thing about local markets and groceries.  To me, they’re the lost “third place“.  I even went through a “Decatur co-op!” phase a couple years ago, until I realized it would be more than a full-time job to get it going.

Anyway, enough about my own fruitless ambitions.

Based on this new Patch profile, the new Oakhurst Market continues to sound pretty dang wicked.  Offerings will include:

    • Butchered meat
    • In-house roasted turkey, beef, pastrami
    • In-house baked bread
    • To-go dinners
    • Fresh herbs and vegetables from the Oakhurst Garden and Sugar Creek Farm
    • A seven-foot wine wall
    • Growlers

According to Patch, the Market plans to open by the end of this month!

Buildouts Begin at Oakhurst Market and Jimmy John’s

    Decatur Metro | March 20, 2011 | 2:33 pm

Tracy sent in this photo yesterday of a sign outside the location of the coming Oakhurst Market yesterday.  Shannon also commented in FFAF that interior renovations are underway and that May 15th is the current projected opening date.

Jimmy John’s inside the 335 West Ponce condo building has also put up a sign – a permanent one than the Oakhurst Market – and is in the process of building out the interior.  My photo after the jump.

Universal Joint and Oak Grove Market Opening “Oakhurst Market” This Spring

    Decatur Metro | December 23, 2010 | 5:45 pm

Marc Brennan confirms with DM that the owners of Universal Joint and the Oak Grove Market up on LaVista Road have teamed up to open the “Oakhurst Market” in the old RealSource space in downtown Oakhurst by March 2011.

You want details.  We got details. Straight from Mr. Brennan…

The market will be a small community market with a butcher on sight for our meat, chicken, and seafood program including our own sausage and a wide range of meat including all natural and grass fed products. The market will also provide: fresh produce from local farms, fresh prepared foods for both individuals and families, limited amount of essential grocery items, deli meats, fresh baked bread, a cheese program, a yogurt station, beer, and wine.

Marc welcomes any and all feedback from the community as to what other items they would like offered at the new market.
