Tom Stubbs Withdraws From Fall Senate Race

    Decatur Metro | May 13, 2010

Macrolina points out a “classy move by Tom Stubbs”…

Jason Carter, former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, will be the only name on the state Senate District 42 ballot in the July Democratic primary.

Tom Stubbs, who has already qualified to run for the DeKalb County legislator seat, said Wednesday that he is withdrawing from the race.

The DNO also reported this yesterday.

AJC Profiles District 42 Senate Race

    Decatur Metro | May 9, 2010

Two days before the special election, the AJC has an extensive profile on the District 42 Georgia Senate race in this morning’s paper.

In summation, Jason Carter has a lot of money (thanks to donors from both inside and outside the state of Georgia) and he’s got name recognition. Main challenger Tom Stubbs asserts that Carter has bigger political aspirations beyond District 42 and questions Carter’s long-term focus on his district.  Both being Democrats, there seem to be few items of policy on which the two candidates disagree.

Only 8,000-9,000 folks are expected to turn out and vote in this Tuesday’s special election, which makes it unpredictable, even with Carter’s substantial monetary advantage.

P.S.  Another article in the AJC a couple days back about this race made another interesting observation.  The person elected to this post will never serve in the legislature during this current term, since it ends this year. So in accuality, District 42 candidates are running to have the word “incumbent” notated after their name on the November ballot.  Interesting.

Disclosure: Both Stubbs and Carter are currently DM sponsors

Jason Carter’s Campaign Says It Didn’t Know About Announced Debate

    Decatur Metro | April 9, 2010

Yesterday I posted an announcement of a “throw down” with the three major contendors for the GA Senate District 42 ticket, hosted by DeKalb’s Libertarian Party.

Today, Jason Carter’s campaign manager, Howard Franklin, says neither he, Carter, or the campaign has ever heard of the event.

This is the first time anyone from Jason Carter’s campaign has heard about this event, including Jason. No one from the Libertarian Party has called or emailed the campaign to ask if Jason was available to participate.

As it were, Jason has a longstanding campaign commitment the same night, which you’re all invited to intend! Please join him for a meet & greet in Johnson Estates at the Home of Debbie and Jerry Miller.

The event has been on our website for nearly a month, and you can find more details and RSVP here: http://carterforstatesenate.com/page/miller

    Many thanks.

I’ve gone back to the Libertarian Party to try to get clarification as to what might have caused this mix up.
