DeKalb Boil Water Advisory Still In Effect

    Decatur Metro | July 27, 2015 | 12:26 pm

    dekalbwaterbreakfix

UPDATE: DeKalb’s boil water advisory has been lifted.  Click here for more details.

In case you’re wondering, due to lack of updates today.  From DeKalb County just a few mins ago…

DeKalb County announces the precautionary boil water advisory that was issued countywide on Saturday, July 25 is still in effect.

DeKalb Watershed Management sampled 20 water sites on Friday, July 24 and water 40 sites Saturday, July 25, which all showed negative for bacteria. Fifty water sites were sampled on Sunday, July 26, and those results are expected today.

As part of the county’s emergency response, sampling is conducted for both public safety assurance and to stay ahead of any regulatory requirements, following a decrease in water pressure to the system.

The loss in pressure experienced by DeKalb County residents during the weekend was a result of a break in a 48-inch transmission main approximately 20 feet underground in an area with gas, power and other utilities present. These obstacles required substantial coordination and care.

DeKalb Watershed Management maintains 3,200 miles of water lines and 2,600 miles of sewer lines.

DeKalb Water Main Break Is Repaired; Water Tests Underway

    Decatur Metro | July 26, 2015 | 8:13 am

DeKalb County posted the following on its Twitter account an hour ago…

Great news: the water main break at Evans/Henderson Mill is repaired. Water pressure 1/2 back to normal & improving. pic.twitter.com/fnwyCf1svF

    — DeKalb County, GA (@ItsInDeKalb) July 26, 2015

But they also said that they’re still testing the water before lifting the water boil advisory.

Boil water advisory still in effect, out of caution. Water testing being done now. Will update here when lifted.

    — DeKalb County, GA (@ItsInDeKalb) July 26, 2015

Also note that DeKalb says it will be a few hours before water pressure is fully restored…

It could take a few hours for water pressure to return to normal, however, officials have been notified of your reports re: lack of water.

    — DeKalb County, GA (@ItsInDeKalb) July 26, 2015

So sit tight.  It seems like everything will be back to normal soon with any luck!

DeKalb Boil Water Advisory In Effect…

    Decatur Metro | July 23, 2008 | 8:27 am

UPDATE III: Drink up! Water is now safe according to DeKalb thru the AJC.

    Here’s the release…provided by the city…

DECATUR – DeKalb County has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory
for all zip codes. DeKalb County Watershed Management officials
conducted several test. Based on the results, officials have determined
that all water is safe for drinking and normal use.

It is not necessary to flush any lines based on the test results.

UPDATE II: DeKalb officials are now saying that the boil water advisory could stretch until Friday.

UPDATE: 11Alive is reporting that the boil water order will stay in effect until tomorrow (Thursday) [thanks Carl!]

…thanks to Scott Candler Water Plant.

I’m sure by this point, most Decaturites have received the CodeRed alert about the Boil Water Advisory issued by DeKalb County. Thanks to Carl, altmod and Linda Harris for the tipoffs.

Here’s DeKalb County’s release, courtesy of Linda. She notes that DeKalb is saying (thru the AJC) that this is just mainly a precaution, since service was restored quickly.

DEKALB ISSUES BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR AVONDALE,
    CHAMBLEE, DECATUR AND DORAVILLE AREAS
DECATUR – DeKalb County has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for Avondale,
Chamblee, Decatur and Doraville areas, which includes zip codes: 30319, 30030, 30340, 30341

30345, 30033, 30329, 30084, 30087, 30083, 30030, 30002, 30307, 30306, 30079, 30021, 30032, 30333 and 30088 (These are currently the affected zip codes. The county will continue to send updates as information becomes available.) Residents in the affected areas are being
asked to boil water for at least 3 minutes prior to drinking or cooking until further notice.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., DeKalb County Watershed Management officials were notified that the Scott Candler Water Plant lost power due to severe weather in the area.

Watershed officials immediately started working to restore water pressure to the system. There
are some reports of low to no water pressure in the affected areas. DeKalb County Health
Department is aware of the situation and will work to notify area hospitals and restaurants.
Below is additional information concerning the boil water advisory:
    * Do not drink water unless you know it is safe.
    * Do not bathe in the water unless you know it is safe.
    * Do not cook with the water unless you know it is safe.
    * Do not brush teeth with the water unless you know it is safe.
    * Do NOT use the water in homes or restaurant locations to make ice unless you know it
    is safe

Hmm…l’ll try not to think about all the water I’ve already used this morning. Should’ve bathed in boiling water I guess…better than a fresh cuppa’ joe!
