MARBAR Shows Sign It May Reopen

    Decatur Metro | November 4, 2014 | 11:58 am

    marbarsign

Steve sends in this pic of a new sign in the window of the recently shuttered Marbar along East Howard Avenue.

Seems like the rumor that it may reopen – reported by the AJC – may be true.

“The Square Pub” Coming to Decatur Square

    Decatur Metro | August 11, 2010 | 10:47 am

Scott sends in this pic of a Coming Soon sign for “The Square Pub” in the old “Pharmhouse” space along the Sycamore Sidewalk, which runs along the southern edge of Decatur Square.  I have yet to locate a website to determine any potential offerings.

But the larger question here is, when will Decatur hit pub-pacity?  I guess we can use the Brick Store wait-time as a gauge on that.

Decatur: City of Social Drinkers, Urban Thinkers and Little Stinkers.  :-)

Wahoo! Grill Receives Bomb Threat on Sunday

    Decatur Metro | December 14, 2009 | 9:15 am

UPDATE: From Decatur PD’s Assistant Chief Keith Lee…

Officers responded to the Wahoo Grill in reference to a reported bomb threat. Decatur Fire Department, and both MARTA Police and DeKalb County Police K-9/explosive disposal units were notified and advised of the incident. The business was evacuated and Decatur police officers along with staff members conducted a search of the restaurant with negative results. The scene was released to the management without further action.

    Ed writes in…

FYI – someone called in a bomb threat to the Wahoo Grill around 130 pm on Sunday while my wife and I were having brunch. I really appreciate the calm way Wahoo’s management handled the situation. Unfortunately they had to clear the restaurant. The Decatur police were arriving as we left.

I’m trying to get my hands on some more details. Stay tuned.

Yogurt Tap Coming To Old Houseworks Space on Church

    Decatur Metro | June 20, 2009 | 1:36 pm

    Ann writes in a comment…

The Yogurt Tap is coming to Church Street in the old Houseworks space. They hope to open by mid-July. It’s a self-serve frozen yogurt place… whatever that looks like! It sounds pretty good on this hot day, and I can assure you the merchants on Church are thrilled since that spot has been vacant since April 2008.

    Another Leon's Review

    Decatur Metro | April 29, 2009 | 11:01 am
An True Anomaly: An Empty Leons (AJC pic)

An True Anomaly: An Empty Leon's (AJC pic)

For those of you who comfort yourselves during those hours when Leon’s is closed by flipping through the seemingly endless reviews of your favorite “sustainapub”, here’s another by the AJC.  This time by Meredith Ford Goldman.

The appetizers, beer, and bocce all get a shout out.

Oh, and in case you hadn’t heard: no more rabbit fingers.

Small Fire at Sweet Melissa's This Morning

    Decatur Metro | October 7, 2008 | 8:27 am

Scott reports in with news (and a pic) that a small kitchen fire at Sweet Melissa’s had many of Decatur’s firefighters up on East Courthouse Square this morning.

Hope damage isn’t too bad.  Isn’t the Brick Store’s Belgian Bar directly over that kitchen?

Please write in if you have details.

Brick Store is #3 Among America's Top Pubs

    Decatur Metro | December 25, 2007 | 5:48 pm

This won’t help my Christmas wish that the Brick Store’s wait times would decrease.

InDecatur notes that BeerAdvocate has ranked the Brick Store as the nation’s third best pub for 2007, up 12 places from #15 last year.

Soon we’ll be known as the birthplace of Michael Stipe, endless, mindless violence (thanks to unincorporated Decatur) and home of the Brick Store Pub.

    Congrats Brick Store!
