Jeni’s Closes Ice Cream Shops Again After Listeria Found a Second Time

    Decatur Metro | June 12, 2015 | 12:04 pm

    jenis decatur

    From Jeni’s website…

We have found Listeria in our production kitchen again. We have stopped making ice cream and are investigating where and how it may have re-entered the facility. Since resuming production on May 13, we have been testing every batch of ice cream we have made and holding it until we learned that the testing did not detect any Listeria. So it is with complete confidence that we can say all of the ice cream that has been served in our shops since reopening on May 22 has been safe and is 100% Listeria-free. We are closing our scoop shops temporarily because we don’t have enough ice cream to keep them stocked. We hope to be back very soon.

Jeni’s Announces Atlanta Locations Will Reopen Friday, May 22nd

    Decatur Metro | May 14, 2015 | 8:53 pm

    jenis decatur

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams announced this afternoon that all Atlanta locations will reopen Friday, May 22nd at 7pm.  All Jeni’s shops were temporarily closed in late April after the company found listeria in their ice cream pints.

    The announcement states…

Jeni’s scoop shops in Ohio, Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, Charleston, and Los Angeles will open their doors at 7 pm on Friday, May 22, with normal business hours resuming the following day.

…When the shops open, the dipping cabinets will feature Salty Caramel and other signature flavors, throwbacks such as Root Beer, and the new, limited edition ice cream, Sun-Popped Corn. Additional flavors will be added in the coming weeks as the kitchen returns to full production and the summer progresses.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Opening on Decatur Square

    Decatur Metro | September 16, 2014 | 7:00 am

Remember when we reported back in late July that an “ice cream store” would be opening in the old Froyolo location on Decatur Square next to Best Time (545 N. McDonough)?

Well, Atlanta Magazine reports that Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be opening up in the space by late October.  A bit more…

Both locations will serve grass-grazed ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sorbet, often made with local ingredients. Signature Jeni’s flavors include Coffee with Cream & Sugar ice cream made with Batdorf & Bronson coffee and Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam made with fresh Georgia peaches from the Peach Truck. Flavors change seasonally but favorites include Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Brambleberry Crisp, and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries.

In Decatur, Jeni’s will also serve Batsdorf & Bronson coffee. The Krog Street location will not.

A free ice cream party will be held to celebrate the Decatur location’s opening. The date has not been announced.

Ice Cream Shop Planned for Froyolo Location on Decatur Square

    Decatur Metro | July 28, 2014 | 1:16 pm

    froyolo

This might not come as a surprise to many of you who’ve hung out on Decatur Square in the last month or so, but the yogurt shop – Froyolo – has closed.

In response to inquiry, the City’s Catherine Lee tells us that the owners of Best Time next door say the space is being renovated to become an ice cream shop in the near future.

Butter and Cream To Serve Ice Cream and Desserts

    Decatur Metro | February 21, 2014 | 5:41 pm

Many have wondered about the new shop “Butter and Cream”, which is going into the old Taste space on Church Street (MAP).

We got in touch with the owner, Stacey Wisniewski who tells us…

I am very excited about my new shop, Butter and Cream. We will be making and serving delicious ice cream and desserts with fun and inventive flavors. Currently we are anxiously awaiting our building permit so we can get started with construction. Thanks for asking!

    Stay tuned!
