Three Taverns Brewery Opens to Public Tomorrow

    Decatur Metro | October 10, 2013

This has been fermenting in the background of Decatur’s food and drink news scene for a couple of months now, and it’s suddenly snuck up on me!  Three Taverns Brewery and Tasting Room opens to the public tomorrow!  Nice spread in Atlanta Magazine today…

Purcell says the Three Taverns tasting experience will run similar to that at SweetWater Brewing Co. Drinkers will pay $12 and receive a souvenir tasting glass plus six tokens redeemable for 5.5-ounce pours. Initially, three or four beers will be available, including the five percent Belgian-style Single Intent, a 7.5 percent Belgian-style American IPA called A Night in Brussels, and a Russian imperial stout named Theophan the Recluse. The Three Taverns-Twains collaboration, called Decatur Ryeson, may be served as well.

“The unveiling of the tasting room will be an unexpected surprise for everyone,” Purcell says. “There’s a lot of texture. You’ll have an experience like you walked into an older time. It’s a very Old World experience.”

A snippet from a new post over on the Three Taverns website…

…I finally have the answer you and I have been waiting for, Three Tavens beers will be on tap Friday, July 19!

We’ll launch our two flagship beers, Single Intent, a Belgian-style single ale and A Night In Brussels IPA, a Belgian-style American IPA in kegs throughout Decatur and a few neighboring areas. We’ll kick off the evening’s celebration at at the Brick Store Pub, our official launch headquarters and home base. But the Three Taverns core team will venture out to other spots during the evening to raise a glass and celebrate with our friends and neighbors there as well.

Too Many Beers – Best I.P.A?

    Decatur Metro | September 14, 2011

Remember the days when you could go into a Decatur liquor store and your only options were domestic beers and maybe some Sweetwater?  My have times changed!

With the loosening of Georgia’s liquor laws a few years back allowing for higher octane brews, the Decatur market is now flooded with kilo-gallons of beer options.  So, now instead of complaining about a lack of options, I’m now primed to complain about the tyranny of choice!  I walk into Herb’s, Ale Yeah! or Sherlock’s and I’m presented with hundreds of beer options.

So, I need some help.  We’ve done “Best Wines Under $15” recently, but I need some new beer standbys.  So that at the end of a long day, I can go into a beer retailer and have five or six good options that I can grab and go, and not stand there for 10 minutes, mouth agape, before finally picking up another six-pack of 420.

There are a lot of beers, so let’s start with I.P.A.  In the coming weeks we can move on to other ales, porters, Belgians, you name it.
