Your Favorite Atlanta Spring Festival
Decatur Metro | April 5, 2016 | 10:45 amThe tornadoes of pollen and spastic carpenter bees are telltale signs of the commencement of Spring along the Georgia Piedmont.
To combat all the subtle annoyances of lust-filled nature, humans congregate at events they call “festivals”. It’s a reason to get out in the sunshine, converse with each other, and devour King of Pops.
But there are so many great Atlanta Spring Festivals these days. What are your favorites?

I love a good joust and turkey leg at the Georgia Renaissance Festival.
We’re pretty nondiscriminating when it comes to festivals, but our absolute favorite may be Inman Park. The setting, winding along those shady streets in front of beautiful homes, just can’t be beat!
If we’re talking about the “arts” type festivals, I like Decatur’s on Memorial Day weekend (very late in the spring though) because it’s easier to walk around than most of them and easy to duck into a bar or restaurant when one tires of the outdoor crowds and/or heat. Agree that Inman Park is nice too.
Inman Park is a classic and always a great time, Kirkwood Spring Fling extremely family friendly, laid back and having the park as the centerpiece is quickly becoming a favorite
I like the Decatur Arts Festival and the Decatur Book Festival but both are usually way too hot and humid. I propose that states have the right to choose their own holiday schedule just like they can choose whether or not to participate in Daylight Savings Time. So Georgia needs to move up Memorial Day by a month and move back Labor Day by a month. Meanwhile Vermont probably should move all its holidays save Christmas into the month of July. Holiday weather issues solved, you are welcome.
Full disclosure: Decatur Arts Fest has my heart and I have volunteered there for many years. And the music line-up is consistently good, entertaining, and well run. But thinking more broadly, I like the whole idea of a free, neighborhood, family-friendly festival. It seems like I spend a lot of time facing a screen, not enough time with my neighbors, through the year. So I love to see the town turn out for the arts fest. (I am also very fond of Inman Park.)
