Russia Unleashes Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine: Putin Preps for Ballistic Missile Launch

Russia batters Ukraine with 'heaviest drone attack' as Vladimir Putin plans to launch intercontinental ballistic missile

Ukraine has issued a caution that Russia is poised to execute a “training and combat” launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. This warning comes shortly after Moscow launched its most intense drone strike on Ukraine since the conflict’s inception. The Ukrainian GUR intelligence agency announced that the missile firing is scheduled to take place from the Sverdlovsk region in Russia.

According to the statement, the missile in question has a flight range exceeding 10,000 kilometers. The launch site, situated more than 3,850 kilometers from London, enables the missile to cover the entirety of the UK and Europe.

Ukraine’s military intelligence suggests that the planned missile test late on Sunday aims to serve as a show of force towards Ukraine and its Western allies. This move by Russia is seen as an attempt to intimidate and exert pressure amid ongoing tensions.

The missile’s potential reach includes major parts of Europe, highlighting the significant capabilities of Russia’s military arsenal. Concerns are escalating as this missile test follows what was reported as the largest drone attack during the ongoing conflict, surpassing the previous record set on the eve of the war’s third anniversary.

In terms of casualties, the recent drone attack has not resulted in high numbers, though an exact death toll is yet to be confirmed. In Kyiv, a 28-year-old woman lost her life, and three individuals, including a child aged four, sustained injuries. The regional governor, Mykola Kalashnyk, reported these details as firefighters struggled to manage fires at commercial sites hit by the drones.

Amid these developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not made any public statements regarding the attacks. This silence comes just before a scheduled conversation with former US President Donald Trump, who has expressed intentions to discuss a potential end to the conflict. Trump plans to speak both to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following unsuccessful attempts at initiating ceasefire talks earlier in the week.

Putin declined an offer from Zelenskyy for direct talks in Turkey, although the discussions led to an agreement on what could be the largest prisoner exchange between the two nations, involving up to 1,000 prisoners of war from each side.
