Amsterdam-Based “Poké Perfect” Opening In Old Yogurt Tap Space Downtown

    Decatur Metro | January 30, 2017 | 10:45 am

    From Tomorrow’s News Today…

Poké Perfect plans to open the first of three Atlanta area locations in Decatur later this spring.  The new restaurant will open in place of the beloved The Yogurt Tap, a locally owned frozen yogurt shop which closed this past November after just over six years in business.  The roughly 1,200 square foot space is located on Church Street, across from the square in downtown Decatur.
With U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, Poké Perfect has one location open in their European headquarters of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with a second coming soon to the city of Utrecht.

Decatur Hosting Annual “Touch-a-Truck” Event on Saturday, March 25th

    Decatur Metro | January 27, 2017 | 12:42 pm

Mark you calendars, parents! From the city’s Asst. Director of Active Living, Cheryl Burnette…

Join Decatur Active Living on Saturday, March 25 from 10am until 1pm for the annual Touch-a-Truck Event. This fun community event gives children of all ages an opportunity to touch, explore and see their favorite trucks or equipment on wheels. The City of Decatur and DeKalb County dump trucks, fire trucks, tractors, police cars and motorcycles and many other types of vehicles will be on display.

Ride the train! This year’s Touch a Truck event will be held in the East Lake MARTA station NORTH lot. We encourage visitors to ride the train to the event and make this a family field trip!

School Bus Safety! City Schools of Decatur will have a school bus on site and children have the opportunity to learn about school bus safety.

Register your bike! We encourage folks to ride their bike to the event to have it registered by the Decatur Police Department. All those who ride their bike to the event will also receive a special bike pin!

Food Drive! March is National Nutrition Month, a campaign that focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. When you come to Touch-A-Truck, join in the effort by bringing any canned or non-perishable food item. All items will be delivered to DEAM, Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry.

Touch-a-Truck takes place in the East Lake MARTA station NORTH parking lot on DeKalb Avenue. Parking is limited so consider riding the train, walking or biking to the event. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for Saturday, April 15. For more information, contact Cheryl Burnette 678-553-6541 or [email protected]. Be sure to visit www.beactivedecatur.com for up-to-date information on all Active Living programs throughout the year.

This year’s event is sponsored by the City of Decatur, MARTA and Two Men and a Truck.

    Decatur Metro | January 24, 2017 | 2:29 pm

After years of standing there rusty and neglected – and after many recent weeks of asbestos abatement – the Callaway Building at the center of downtown Decatur is being demolished today.   Barb sent in this photo.

The demolition is making way for the Cousins development, which was signed off on by the Decatur City Commission last year.
