Halloween Flashbacks – Decatur Style
Decatur Metro | October 29, 2015 | 2:55 pmIt’s almost Halloween, so why not take a look back at some of the Halloween-related stories here on DM from over the years…
Back in the early days of this site, I apparently posted random pictures from People.com of dogs dressed for Halloween. This was a pre-“Facebook rules in the internet” era, so these types of posts actually brought in a few eyeballs. Keep reading though, it gets a bit more Decatur-centric in subsequent years…
Who remembers Moey’s Candy Voting Machine costume from 2008 and how it went sorta global? In 2009, Moey hit the streets as internet sensation Keyboard Cat, and that post ended up being DM’s most-viewed ever for a couple of years.
Does anyone else recall this awesome Halloween poster from 2009 by famed, local tattoo artist Russ Abbott?
In 2010, Decatur hosted its first ever Decorate Decatur for Halloween, thanks to a local boy who wanted to participate in Decorate Decatur, but who’s family didn’t celebrate Christmas. It’s been an annual tradition since!
Do you recall the Walking Dead house at Ridley and Scott Blvd from back in 2012?
On Oct 31st 2013, Palookaville in Avondale Estates opened its doors. Hence why they’re having a 2 year anniversary party this Saturday…
Last year’s Haints & Saints Parade was led by Baton Bob…
And if you’d like to take a little longer stroll down this spoooky memory lane, take a look back at a great 2014 collection of Decatur Halloween houses on Next Stop…Decatur…
In some years past, we’ve enjoyed reading each others’ reports of trick-or-treaters around Decatur in our Halloween Open Treads. 51 comments in 2013 and 123 back in 2009! I wouldn’t expect that in the social age of 2015, but maybe we’ll put it up again this year for old-time sake and a few of us can yammer for a bit.
Happy Halloween all!
I love that house with the scary teeth.
So do I. So simple yet so imaginative.
Scariest part of Halloween–Moey is driving now. 🙂
