Google Fiber Installation Beginning Around Atlanta

    Decatur Metro | June 25, 2015 | 12:30 pm

    From Google…

    Hey Atlanta,

Have you seen us around town lately? We’re the ones with hard hats and dirt stains on our clothes.

Over the last few months, our team has been drawing up blueprints for our new fiber network in metro Atlanta. But that was just the start.

We’re doing some heavy lifting – literally – to bring Google Fiber to communities throughout Atlanta. There are crews working on the streets with boom trucks, tunnel boring machines, and rolls of cables as we form the foundation of our network.

We’ll be sure to let you know if we’re going to be doing construction near your home…

I’ll wait until Ask Jeeves has their own fiber system, thankyouverymuch.

This makes me very happy. Every cable, U-verse, satellite tech I have encountered, and there sadly have been many, have said how lucky we are.

Read this just a day after getting a Comcast robocall to tell me that I was dangerously close to reaching my monthly data usage (and will be charged an additional fee unless I can somehow reign in my childrens’ ramped up summertime Netflix addiction).

We got a pop up on our computers saying same from Comcast. But when I called and confirmed with them that we have an unlimited plan, they said, “Oh, that message was a mistake- ignore it if you see it again.” Hubs says he heard Comcast is experimenting with metered use in several metro areas, include Atl. More Comcast evil and hassle.

Typical Comcast not knowing what they are doing.

or maybe more a case of trying to get people to self-limit their usage (or measuring to see if people self limit in response to warnings of overage charges)… evil, I tell ya.
