CSD Advised That Allowing Gateway Manor Students To Stay During Reno Not in System’s “Best Interest”

    Decatur Metro | December 1, 2014 | 3:28 pm

    gateway

The AJC’s Bill Banks reports on the tough spot that the CSD school board finds itself in with Decatur’s public housing community, Gateway Manor, scheduled to be renovated next year…

Early figures show that 29 Gateway children will be temporarily relocated outside city limits — as early as January— during the 12-to-18-months renovation.

Decatur Housing Authority Executive Director Douglas Faust has asked the board to allow these students to remain in Decatur’s system during relocation. Seals said the school system’s “been advised legally that it’s not in the best interests” of the school system to let children officially outside the district, regardless of circumstance, to continue attending city schools.

The Board tabled the issue at their last board meeting and is scheduled to vote on the issue on December 9th.

How Clifton Corridor Light Rail Line to Avondale Station Could Be Funded In Next Couple Years

    Decatur Metro | December 1, 2014 | 12:42 pm

From a recent post on the Saporta Report detailing the upcoming December MARTA meetings to discuss the proposed routes and funding options to reinvigorate the Clifton Corridor rail project between Lindbergh and Avondale MARTA stations via Emory…

The state Legislature is expected to revisit in the transportation funding issue during the 2015 session. Any measure is likely to take two years to win approval, which means a funding mechanism could be in place with the environmental impact study of the Clifton Road route is complete, in 2015 or 2016.

Some lawmakers are discussing an increase in the statewide motor fuel tax. Another proposal would enable a few counties to unite to propose a transportation referendum, rather than the 10 counties that were involved in the 2012 referendum.

There are two meetings scheduled to discuss.  Details below:

    Thursday, December 4, 2014, 6-8 pm
    Westminster Presbyterian Church
1438 Sheridan Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30324

    Lee writes in…

My neighbor said you might post a picture of my missing kitten, Daisy.

She has been missing since Tuesday.  About 3-4 months old, had just brought her home as a rescue.  She does respond to the name.  White with gray and orange spots.

I live at 1322 Rupert Road, Decatur (Midway Woods).  .
